My brats celebrate an early "Christmas" because I'm gearing up for the Giving Tree and I travel over the Christmas holiday anyway.
ANyway, I just got the new style shelves for my FN cage. I think I'm going to LOVE the fact that the new shelf has an inset pan. I'm thinking th advantages will include:
* containment of messes
* encourage climbing to access shelves if you remove ramps like I do
* safety (obvious)
The brat also got.....
* an exterior cage ramp ( I was using a regular one that the brats could remove
* two new floor pans without the cutouts (since my cage is constructed from 6 units as a "double-wide", I keep the ramps on one side locked closed, They've decided the cutout area for the ramp is a small potty box.
All new plasitic pans and shelf parts are not made from the shiny plastic that cracks up. Although if it's thermo-plastic, it may lose shape when left in the hot sun. It
* super highway tunnel (they have cardboard tunnels from work that run the length of the room.) They have a tower of fun as well, but their floor tunnel wore out about a year ago.
* AND....I figured out how to reconfigure their hanging fun-nel tube sections to fit THREE lengths of tubes across the depth of the cage with the addition of an extra piece from what I already had.
My fun-nels hang from the top of the top level of the cage, and the brats love them up there. I can still hang bedding with the fun-nels up there.
Yes, they are spoiled ROTTEN. But the cage parts are really for ME since I have less time then most with my job and I get tired of cleaning CEMENT POOP from cage wires when they use the closed ramps as toilets - and I don't use shelf covers on my FN shelves (potential for disaster) - more laundry and cleaning
With ferts that have free run in their own room (than has old carpet , I feel like I spend more time cleaning than I do playing with my brats
There are time I wish I had little corks and clothes pins to solve the potty messes . (Yes, I do have a warped sense of humor.
