So glad it's cooler for them. That should help with appetites and energy levels as well. And by organ meat, I mean liver and kidney, since heart and tongue are both muscle meats As silly as it sounds, I finally remembered the difference between organ meats and muscle meats with a little phrase one of the mentors came up with on here- "if it doesn't secrete- it's meat!"

lol. yea, they take liver and kidney fine i'm thinking of adopting a rescue ferret from a ferret rescue near us, they are over run with ferrets and could use all the help so i might get another, after talking with my parents for awhile so i might have to need help to switch another one

You could always see about fostering as well, if you aren't in a position to adopt right now. Most rescues really need those, too!

yea, i bet they do. they have 58 ferrets in their care. they got 10 ferrets surrendered from a research place, and they're all really young, around the year mark. i was thinking about adopting one of those. they are giants though i was thinking about one of these big boys ferretrescue.ca/ferretinfo.php?webid=335&lang=Ebut if i foster wouldn't i need to keep them on kibble? and i think i might need a bigger cage. i have secretly wanted a ferret nation for about a year

OMG!!! They are gorgeous! As for keeping them on kibble, you should be able to supplement with some raw. The rescue here in Calgary had no problem with it, especially after they saw how good a shape mine were in. The "twice a week" supplementation actually turned into kibble only twice a week, but they didn't need to know that, As for the FN, don't blame you! I've got two of them now, and they are really wonderful!

my dad is okish with getting another ferret, but my mom is set against it. we have too many animals apparently, but one cannot have too many ferrets. but i would also need them tested for ADV. which i think the vet can do?

Not at all, as long as they are getting the variety of meats, and the correct balance in the rest of their diet.\ Almost forgot . Not a clue what it would cost at the vet for an ADV test. Almost everyone I know does the Elisa at home. All you need is the saliva for it.

for the Elisa ADV test, I'm confused about using it. do i fill out the order form, and then just mail it to them? have you used it before? hey so i thought i might be going on vactation for a week. so i made up a food plan, i need to know if it is going to be ok for them. they get about 2 ounces at each meal, so i thought that this would be good for them. i don't think they like turkey wings. :S so i've taken out a chicken, and some other stuff for them. monday- bone in/whole prey tuesday- heart wednesday- bone in/whole prey thursday-liver/kidney in AM heart in PM friday- bone in/whole prey saturday- bone in/whole prey sunday- other meats(pork/beef ect) i think this would be good.

That actually doesn't look too bad Word of advice, though? I'd give some whole prey on the liver day Up to you entirely, though. It certainly won't hurt them to have a muscle meat following an organ meal. But...liver/kidney = fairly loose, blackish stool. Heart muscle = loose blackish stool(heart is also blood rich)

monday- bone in or whole prey tuesday- heart wednesday- bone in or whole prey thursday-liver/kidney in AM whole prey/muscle meat friday- bone in/whole prey saturday- bone in or whole prey sunday- muscle meat better? i'm still working on them with bones, but i think they are pretty good. i found out that if they are bored when they are out they take whatever meat is in the cage out and stash it. that wasn't fun.

I know where you are coming from there, I do a "stash" hunt daily! That looks good. Can you let me know what kinds of meat they are getting now?

mostly just chicken, beef and pork, some turkey, but i don't think they like it that much. they occasionally may get other things if we get them at the market. i would like to try fish, but... that hasn't happened yet. they -might- get eggs once in awhile, but i don't think they know how to eat those yet we don't have any whole prey yet, but i think I'm going to order some in.

Ok, that's fine. Just keep trying with the turkey. Some don't necessarily take to different meats, but they will get used to it. How is Belle doing now?
