So, as many of you may know from my previous post, I have recently made the switch. This week is actually my third week of raw feeding. I have to say, I'm seeing some really great results, seemingly overnight! Actually, they've most likely been gradual, but a friend needed me to watch her little fuzzbutt Kua for her, and so I have been. She's been friends with all of our ferrets but Hiro since we got them, since her mum lives in the same apartment complex and had her since before we had our kiddos.
In any case, she is a kibble fed ferret, as ours were for the first part of them being with us. As they were playing today, I was cuddling her and noticed that she smelled pretty musky-not a problem, of course, I just noticed it. Then, our kid Oz ran by, and I grabbed him for a cuddle, and I noticed that he actually smelled really good. Not musky, or even what I would have considered ferrety at all! He smelled fresh and clean, though he hasn't had a bath for months-even a little sweet. I smelled our others, and by golly, it's the same. It was interesting to see that dramatic of a difference so soon. Also, Oz, who had some pretty course, short hair has really gotten a luscious undercoat, that has whitened up a lot and is oh so soft. The others are also more shiny than they were before, though they were already pretty soft. Come to think of it, their cage doesn't even smell bad at all. I scoop boxes twice a day, but it used to be that it didn't stop them from smelling a bit-and I change their bedding every week. I can't believe how amazing a difference. They all seem to have a shine in their eyes, extra inquisitive energy that they've been putting to use during playtime, and I can't help but attribute it to raw. They're also more interested with their food. I like the fact that they get more variety than before with kibble. I couldn't imagine eating the same thing day after day. Could you? Anyway, I just wanted to brag a little about this diet, and about my ferts. I'm really happy that there is a place that spreads good information that is helpful and good to those of us that might not have known otherwise had this not been here. If I wasn't a believer before, I am certainly so now.
