My husband and i arte moving in with his brother for awhile. They are allergic to cats. They did say i could bring my two cats, but they would have to live out side. Now this would be fine for most of the year. I'm not sure how they would do in the winter. I was tinking of making them a dog house so they could get in out of the elements. `

It really depends. If your cats are declawed, then it is NOT ok. I am personally against having outdoor or indoor/outdoor cats since I have lost too many to road accidents and predators. If you house them outside, it would be nice if you could get a large dog kennel (perhaps 11' by 7') and put a chicken wire top on it. That way they are safe from other animals and cannot get hit by cars. As far as winter, where do you live and how cold does it get?
The other question is, how often will you be able to give them attention living outside? It will be stressful enough on the cats to suddenly be living outdoors. It would stress them out even more if mommy and daddy aren't around much.
Is it possible to have the cats confined to a bedroom? I've known people who, in temporary situations, have had to confine their 2 cats to a bedroom in the house. Sure, not as fun as a whole house to run in, but WAY better than being stuck outside.

Personally, I don't like to leave cats out ever but when set with the position of them being homeless or surrendered to a shelter....your idea is feasible. Is there a way that you can build them a shelter that is away from the ground that would allow them to get away from not just the cold but preditors as well? If you put in straw or hay into the shelter this will also help ease the strain of the cold. Are these normally house cats or are they indoor, outdoor cats ciao

Do you raw feed the cats? It's possible that they wouldn't be allergic to your cats. Everyone who claims debilitating cat allergies haven't had so much as a sniffle being in my house.

I would do the dog kennel idea, then put a smaller house/kennel in there for them to sleep in with a bunch of warm blankets. If they are declawed, you REALLY need to have them confined and protected in some way. If they are going to be outside, I really recommend (if you have not already) microchippng, and collars with name and info tags. Hope it works out!
Oh yes, and I live in AK. My friend has indoor/outdoor cats and even in the winter they do quite well. Granted, they are able to get back into the heated garage even if they can't get into the house if they are out in the middle of the night...

i wasplanning on building them some type of shelter. They already go outside. I was als othinking about the hay. We also were thinking of sneaking them into our room at least for the winter, because it can get very cold. I would spend time with them every day.
