Hey,
I was browsing the net for more raw information and came across the fact that Delta Society has now implemented a ban on all raw fed pets, meaning that if you feed your carnivore a species appropriate diet, they can no longer be registered or participate in any Delta therapy programs of any kind.
And not only is your raw fed pet banned, but so are ANY other dog or cat in the household, including those that don't eat raw. Whether they'd still let your rabbit or guinea pig in, it doesn't really say.
So, will they now be banning humans who eat raw food or rare meat (raw milk, etc.) from working with them too?
Yeesh.
Here's Delta's info page about it.

And on a related note, not only does the marketing director of Purina sit on Delta's board, they are now putting "Purina" logos in their badges/bandanas that the pets wear.
Oh and despite their raw policy, this is their FAQ about animals eating feces etc. And about humans....
Seems to me that if the use of good hygiene is good enough for the handlers and the kibble fed animals and farm animals they accept then it should be good enough for the raw fed animals.
Oh and since they say catching and eating a wild animal is okay as long as the vet says it's okay... perhaps the raw feeders should start letting their pets catch and eat "stocked wild game" from their yards.
Anyone know of any other companies like this that you can register with that still accept raw fed animals?

17. What if my pet catches or eats a bird, mouse, or other wild animal?
We recommend that contact with wildlife be avoided but at this point we have no evidence indicating a need to be more restrictive. If your pet has eaten a bird, mouse or other wild animal we recommend that as your pet’s advocate, you contact your pet’s veterinarian to ensure your pet’s health is not jeopardized, and will have no impact on the clients served.
18. What if my pet eats feces from another animal?
We recommend keeping your pet away from it. If your pet has eaten the feces of another animal, we recommend that as your pet’s advocate, you contact your pet’s veterinarian to ensure your pet’s health is not jeopardized, and will have no impact on the clients served.
19. What if the handler is exposed to raw meat from handling or ingesting?
For human food handling and safety, please refer to the Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov).
20. Can a handler also shed pathogens that could put individuals at risk? Would that put the handler’s animal risk?
Use of good handler hygiene, as outlined in Delta Society standards for all handlers, will reduce any possible risks.
Seems to me that if the use of good hygiene is good enough for the handlers and the kibble fed animals and farm animals they accept then it should be good enough for the raw fed animals.
