My ferrets love whole mice, and half of them took to gerbil on the first try, but I've never fed anything larger yet. I found someone locally selling feeder rabbits, haven't talked to them but believe they are full grown, is it worth buying the smallest and seeing if mine will take it? I'm not sure of the cost yet, just curious to see if anyone thinks they will go for it at all. And what size rabbit would feed 4 adult ferrets, 3 are males.

I feed rats and rabbits. The larger ones I cut up. Rabbits are.....smelly. I gut them first. The ferrets won't eat the stomach, spleen and gallbladder so I just remove them. The last rabbit was quite small so I cut him in half. The next one....he's big so I'm going to cut limbs off and feed him in chunks. ciao

Hmm..I know nothing about gutting animals and the b/f didn't sound too thrilled about the idea, maybe the guy selling them will clean them out for me. Like, really smelly? Do your ferrets seem to like rabbit, mine go nuts for mice and I have one who so far pretty much digs into anything meaty with no hesitation so with any luck he'll go for it and the rest will follow, I figured with something so large I'd probably have to cut it up a bit.

Yah, rabbits with their guts in are smelly The first one I fed I made the mistake of leaving it's guts in....disgusting. Not near as bad as tripe though My ferrets love rabbit. They liked the younger ones better but as I've mentioned before, ferrets are a lazy chew so they weren't happy about having to work harder ciao

Rabbit is my fert's favourite. To gut them, cut the belly [from groin to sternum] and either flick or pull the intestines and stomach out. Kidneys, liver, lungs/heart should stay. Yes they smell but you get used to it fast enough. For that many ferts I would give them a full one and just leave it until they cleaned it all up.
