1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets? About 2 or 3 years ago in a forum for raw fed cats and dogs.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I am interested in switching to a whole prey diet. I have an account with rodentpro already as I have snakes also. With them I can get a nice variety or whole prey.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet? Hmm, cheaper (with whole prey), easier, but the most important reason is I have seen what good a natural diet can do for cats and dogs so I want that for my ferrets.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
I am a stay at home mom with no plans to move or start working. I am dedicated to making the switch! (will also be switching my cat)
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight?
We have 2 rescues. Jack and Dianne both turned 3 in January, no known health issues but they will be seeing our vet upon his return in a week or so. I think they might be a touch underweight, but that is due to really bad nasty kibble, currently on better kibble for the change. Also from being cage bound for 2 years by irresponible owners.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc)
When we got them they were on HARTS Bonaza ferret kibble. Now they have that, Iams Kitten food and Drs Foster and Smith kibble in a blend. I just made a batch of duck soup last night and ground in 3 hopper mice. They get their first try at soup today.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
In the past I had a kit and a 7-9 year old rescue. The rescue refused everything except Marshalls food and passed away about 2 years ago. I rehomed the kit during my grieving period and have regretted it ever since. The kit had no problem with raw food as treats. I never got to attempt a full switch with her.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
I have 3 kids, a wonderful husband who supports the best care for everyone, a sweet indoor only cat, an outdoor cat who showed up one day and we are trying to get him to be indoor only. I also have corn snakes and use caution and hand washing to minimize risk of salmonella.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
Daily, several times a day actually.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
