So a while ago I bought a bunch of little rawhide bones for Koda, hoping that perhaps of he chewed those that he would stop chewing everything else. I know they aren't the best thing, but it's better than electric cords and carpet! lol Anyways, I had this pink ribbon that we were playing chase with and I had the idea of making the end of the ribbon heavier. So I tied a bone to it. And he LOVES it! He thinks it is the greatest toy ever! He still does not chew the bone (but he will chew my cords ) but he will wrestle and play and stash and tug of war with it. It is super funny.

My brats have these too......they never chew them, but they like them a lot....Do you know why? ? It's because they stink! More enrichment here. Smell is perhaps the primary sense for a ferret. I've know deaf ferts that have gone blind - and they do great as pets. Chop their noses off and they'd be lost without a clue!

Problem with rawhides is they are blockages waiting to happen! They don't digest it, and it really blocks them up quickly, sorry! Neatest toy I've seen for when a ferret has to be in a cage is two toy mice tied onto either end of a ribbon, and only one will hang down far enough to be stashed. Ferret takes one mouse, stashes it, comes back out, and what does he see? Another toy to stash. Comes back out, and there is the original toy he'd just stashed, back out again You get the picture

I've never had a problem with the little raw hides they're way too hard for my brats to bet tempted to chew them, although Koda tends to be more of a chewer than my brats. The mouse thing is fun.....I made an enrichment mat that had something similar to that...the problem is that my brats caught almost immediately and simply chewed the string to free up the toys The mat had crocheted eggs instead of mice, and there were pockets for stashing the eggs, tunnels, a hidey den, etc. Fun stuff!!! -jennifer
