Ok. So I'm going to take the advice of Heather and start this thread =). I'll first start out with my story and situation...
I have two little trouble-makers, Biggy and Baby. I've only had them for about two weeks, and they are approximately 2 years of age. Biggy is a male, and quite big compared to Baby. He is the nonsensical, interactive one. Baby (female) on the other hand is slender, and very insistent on getting what she wants. She doesn't quite know how to play with humans yet but she is making progress.
A bit on their past...The woman I got them from obviously couldn't even care for a mouse, let alone a ferret. The cage was disgusting, their winter coat was ALL OVER their bedding, they were heaving because of hairballs, their litter box was disgusting, and their water bottle was stained yellow with some sort of tiny particles in it. I'm sure they have been on the Purina Indoor Cat Formula kibble all their lives. She says it's all they'll eat (not true).
I have been researching the best diet for ferrets, and a raw diet is obviously the winner. I only started taking action today though. I scrambled a raw egg and gave it to them. Surprisingly Biggy wasn't interested and Baby was a little curious. They did both try it though =). Then I saw how they did with a small mouse.... Baby again was curious, and she even took it by the neck and shook it. Biggy, again no interest.
With their past living/nutrient situation and age, they are going to be difficult to switch. I'm ok with that and I'm ready. I'm only 17, but I work at a petstore, and I have a lot of resources to get their food from. I will be using my checks to pay for everything for them so I am trying to be cost efficient. Currently, I'm broke, I spent all my money on getting them set-up and comfy. I think I will keep introducing them to egg for now, as it is easy and cost efficient.
If you have any other suggestions on how to start these stubborn brats on a raw diet, just let me know =). Either way I will keep this thread up to date on their progress.
