Weird, I know. But I had a hopper mouse for my dog. She refused to eat it, so I cut a slit in the belly. She just squeezed it and made a mess, so I gave it to Rosto.
I came back and couldn't find it. But there was no blood, so I didn't think he'd eaten it. I found it in a box, sans some organs and it's head!!! He ate some! He went straight from soupies to a hopper mouse!
I'm so proud of him, and excited at the same time! I'm putting in an order for 30 pinkie mice, and some more hoppers here soon. I decided I can't do rats, too close to home.
I'm very happy for him. And this was even after he'd had his daily soupies!

Congrats to Rosto! It must be so exciting to have him eating whole prey (or at least parts of it!). My boys just started soupies. I hope they take to whole prey as easily as Rosto does!

Congratulations He ate the most important parts My guys always eat the heads and some of the organs first, then they stash the body for later. That's great. You're little one is moving along fantastically. Give Rosto a great big hug from me. Go, little hunter ciao

It is very exciting! I hope he takes to frakenprey as easily! Can't wait to go to the butcher tomorrow. I hope I get some good deals. Am I right in hearing they have trouble with beef? What about beef hearts? Heather, that's exactly what he did! I'm going to let him keep it in his playpen until he goes in the cage tonight. He's only in cage while I sleep, so that gives him plenty of time to munch on the rest of it.

Some have trouble with beef, some don't. Out of 9, Athena has trouble with certain cuts of beef(stewing beef is the worst for her for some reason), and Vincent absolutely cannot have beef kidney. He vomits bloody mucous, and poops the same. Other beef parts don't seem to bother him at all. And Boris will gorge himself on beef heart if I let him, to the point where he'll throw it back up, he's eaten it so fast

Rosto has eaten the mouse down to the back legs, butt, and tail. Lol. I think he's done. I'm going to remove it. Is it ok to give mice every day?

You have to cover 3 different types of proteins to cover your bases. My guys get mice almost daily but they're also getting chicken or turkey (today's menu) and rats (my other whole prey animal). Instead of mice they're going to get chicken necks tonight. We had quail yesterday. You can feed the mice daily but you have to come up with 2 other proteins to round it out. I've never been able to find a source of chicks, which would allow me to serve only prey if I chose but they also eat commercial ground mixes, rabbit, turkey, beef, bison...it allows me to feed some of the more exotic meats to cover some nutrients that they might not normally get. They also get frankenprey that I usually get from the grocery or the butcher...they got lamb the other day. So as you can see you're only restricted by your own imagination. Some here feed insects too, I tried crickets but didn't really have enough of them who enjoyed eating them, so got away from feeding them. He will probably eat the rest of the mouse if you let him, the tail (dental floss) depends on the ferret. I've got some who leave the tails and other who run around with the tails in their mouths, eating it like spaghetti (hence the term dental floss ) ciao
