Dianne showed me today that she thinks they are toys. How can I make them safe for her to play in? I want to be sure she doesn't get smooshed or anything. Or should I get a way to keep the drawers totally shut and teach her its a no no?

It depends on how much time you have to supervise whenever they are around them! But I've never been able to teach mine to stay away from them. Or kitchen cupboards and drawers either I've actually seen them work together to get a particularly stubborn cupboard door open When I hear them, and go out, I'll say "And what do you think you're doing, young lady" to Sinnead(it ALWAYS her). She look at me, look at the floor, back up at me, slowly back away, find a towel to curl up in while looking at the floor, and then start hissing to herself The minute I leave the room, she's right back at it again . We play this "game" several times a day

Don't you just love it. We tolerate it when the ferrets talk back but we won't put up with it from our skinkids ciao

My little ones have their own set of drawers to play in (I couldn't keep them out of it so I gave it to them ) It's in their room and they've got blankies set up in the one drawer, river rocks in the other and old socks (have to let them think they're stealing things) in the last one ciao

Heather, is there a particular reason you chose river rocks for one drawer? I never thought about rocks for enrichment before. Didn't someone use one of those plastic storage things with drawers for a dig box and stuff? It'd be cool to convert it into a set of drawers for the ferrets. I have one that's in use right now, but after we move maybe I can use it for them!

You're right mskitty! They did. Bottom drawer was used for rice, with a tube leading in. Second was plastic easter eggs. Not sure about the others. The great thing about it was the fact it could be rolled out of the way when not in use, and the drawers could be swapped out if you had another!

After I posted I found the picture again. It was posted on here, actually, in another forum I think. The top drawer looked like storage, middle was plastic eggs, bottom was rice. I think I'm going to convert ours for sure, it looks very simple and yet fun for them!

My guys have river rocks, marbles, rice, play sand and aquarium rocks in a bunch of different drawers and boxes. Each gives them a different sensation and some of them prefer one box over another. I have a box of those plastic play balls too. It's been put away for now but I think I may bring it out for them to play in next month. ciao

I've actually tried taping it. As soon as she sees the camera, she comes straight for it to see what it is
