They are loving the turkey! I think I even accidently put a little more than 1oz in last night. Since it's been so popular with them, I'm going to do 1/4 packet tonight. Hopefully it goes well! I already ordered more uncanny just in case though. I don't know how long it will take them to get to eating it without. I'll let you know how it goes tonight!

Down to 1/4 packet! Reks had to eat from the spoon, but I think it went pretty well considering it was more around 1.5-2oz in 1/4 packet! By the time I got him eating from the spoon (he ate it right away, but Sari and Pan got a head start and pretty much drank all the liquid from it, so it was a bit chunky). Reks was basically eating straight ground turkey chunks with uncanny flavor I think once I get to the part where I start reducing water (after uncanny is out completely), Sari is going to be the difficult one. She is all about texture. She loves the uncanny w/ ground whatever, but only if it's super watery. She stops eating it once it gets too chunky after they basically drink all the liquid first, then they eat chunks of ground and the freeze-dried beef chunks that came in the uncanny. Sari does eat the beef chunks, but not straight ground yet. Anyways, I'm happy to have reduced it to 1/4 packet

That is great! I'm happy Reks didn't have any qualms with it, yet. Ferrets are unusually texture-oriented so sometimes getting from liquid to ground is difficult; some people find better success going from liquid straight to chunks. I've used the ground method before though and found it worked well for most of my kids, and think it's a good basis for your crew. We can always change or alter the plan if Sari has issue!

Reks is eating the 1/4 packet w/ 1.5oz turkey grind on his own! He was down on the food level of the FN with the girls waiting to be served And another surprise! Sari actually was the one who licked it clean today She was eating up the ground turkey left on the bottom! I'm going to feed 1/4 packet two more times (to finish off the packet) and try...errr...seeing as 1/4 packet was hard enough to measure out , I'm going to reduce it to sprinkling it on, but still adding water.

They are all eating it well! Last night was kind of my fault. I forgot to pull their Ziwipeak out, so when I gave it to them, they didn't really eat a whole lot because they just weren't hungry! They all did eat though When I get the 10 more packets of beef/egg uncanny, I'm going to up it to twice a day feedings since I use so little uncanny now (if I use 1/2 packet a day, it will last me 20 days!) This will also mean they won't eat as much ziwipeak, if any. I'm going to reduce the amount of ziwipeak a day to half a scoop (about 1oz I think).

Wow, those kids are really taking off, huh? I'm happy to hear they're doing so well! I say go ahead and up this meal to twice a day, and reduce the Ziwipeak. In a few weeks if you notice they aren't eating much or any Ziwipeak during the day, you can cut that out entirely.

It's been going good! Sorry for my absence...it's been busy to say the least. I'm still waiting for the uncanny to get here, but I still have two more days worth. I think it will be ok. It will be awesome once I can get them eating it twice a day. Then I will reduce the uncanny even more. As you can see, I'm trying to go slow.

Slow & steady wins the race, or so they say! I'm happy all is well. Enjoy your holidays if you celebrate them, and enjoy your days anyway if you don't

Man, I am so glad the holidays are almost over They are doing great! They had to eat uncanny/turkey (1/4 packet and 1.5-2oz turkey grind) three times a day for a few days until we got more ziwipeak! Now they are eating it twice a day with ziwipeak in between. I had a question though. Sometimes Reks didn't eat any of the third meal (when they got it three times a day), and now sometimes doesn't eat the second meal. Could he possibly be full by the second/third meal? (he eats more in one sitting than the floof girls) If this is the case, I think once they are eating raw, they will probably be eating about 9oz a day (about 3oz a piece). Does this sound about right? I'm going to reduce the uncanny soon, since they have been doing so well!

That sounds near right for now. Three meals a day is a lot and not really necessary even at this point. The nice thing about ferrets is that they so rarely overeat, and so you know that he's getting all he needs in just two meals. On a full raw diet they'll probably eat just about 3 oz or less a day. Morgan my fatty will eat about 5 if I let him, Tank and Diesel between 2 and 3.5, and Ranger and Pilot about an oz each. It's surprising how little they actually need, isn't it??
I hope your New Year was fun! I hate the holidays and am soooo glad it's over.

My dad got us a gift certificate to Bark n' Purr (a pet boutique in Austin) who sell a ton of different raw food brands......we ended up buying S&C frozen beef and duck versions. Since the floofs like S&C freeze-dried, I figured it was worth a try!
So far, not big fans of the beef (but we only tried it once with only 1/4 packet), but Pan and Sari love the duck one! Reks ate it from the spoon, though! That's a start!
Anyways.....they still need a little bit longer before they get the uncanny reduced. Since the holidays have been so crazy, I haven't been able to be consistent with the twice a day feedings yet. Now that work hours are back to normal now, I can.

Sounds like steady progress despite the holidays! Reks will be loving it soon enough, too! I've never tried the frozen S&Cs before, mostly because the store that carries them only carry the chicken, beef, and lamb varieties. And since those are all meats I can buy whole at the grocery store for less money, I don't bother. If they carried the duck though I'd try that! I occasionally buy the Bravo! frozen raw duck for the kids.

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I've been super busy with life. They are doing great still! They are only eating twice a day feedings of 1/4 packet uncanny with 1.5-2oz primal turkey grind OR S&C frozen duck! They love both! Reks took a little while to warm up to the S&C, but now he loves it! Now I'm going to start working in the S&C frozen beef! They didn't like it the first time I tried it with them, but I think I can try again, mixing it with one of the others this time. The reason I haven't reduced the uncanny yet is because I'm afraid they're going to protest I'll try reducing the uncanny soon to see how they react. Once I get them eating a rotation of three different protein sources (turkey, duck, and beef for the time being), I will start taking out the uncanny until there's no need to add it anymore! Then I will worry about adding more variety.....then start adding whole stuff!

Sounds good to me! Do start reducing the Uncanny soon. The longer they are on something, they more likely they are to imprint on it so badly that they WILL rebel! Good luck and keep me posted!

They are doing great! I'm exited to say they have accepted three different protein sources! S&C frozen beef, S&C frozen duck, and Primal turkey (both grind and formula!)! They were slow with the beef at first, but love it now! I haven't completely taken out the uncanny yet, but have reduced it to about 1/6 of a packet (barely any!) for the duck and turkey. I still need to add 1/4 packet with the beef since they don't like it as much as the other two. They are ONLY eating two meals a day, refreshing it every 12 hours (they eat it all in about 8 hours, sometimes some is left over even at 12 hours!) Also, they don't mind me switching it up between beef and pheasant uncanny! They used to not even eat the mixture with the pheasant uncanny in it, even though they love it by itself I will soon take out the uncanny completely with all three, then I will work on adding more variety (next I will try primal pheasant and primal venison formulas). I might start adding in chunks randomly with their ground to start introducing whole stuff Thanks for your patience. I still haven't gotten back in the swing of things yet
