I either let my ferrets dispatch them or use a CO2 chamber. I get CO2 by using dry ice which I get at the store in a huge block. You only need a little bit of it though.

How do you control the rate of CO2 with dry ice? Or is it an guess test and revise?

When you use dry ice, you can't control the rate of CO2. I just use a block of it and shut the lid. I posted on the Euthanizing thread about how I make and use my CO2 chamber. It worked for me. Put everything in place, put the rodents in, put in the dry ice (refer to my post about the CO2 chamber on how to use the dry ice) and close the lid. Come back in about 10 minutes and you have dead rodents. www.ball-pythons.net/forums/showthread.php?t=33850This is a how to on the CO2 chamber I used. This is not my thread but someone on the reptile forum I belong to posted it up a while ago. Pictures included. Very informative. Except he waits 5 minutes while I like to wait 10.

I just went back and reread through that thread. Heather's post pulled it back up to the top. I am just uber worried about suffocation. Just because I cant hear them doesnt mean that it isnt happening.

Step One: I called the guy in charge of our research labs adn we apparently just got all new rat cages in and he said i could take what ever i need to set up my colony, cages, wire tops etc. woohoo!
and on top of that I am working on getting an internship with the research vet (so far she seems okay with it but it is still in the works).

Very cool! You'll have to get some pictures of your set up once you get the stuff you need.

I wont set up until the summer but i will certainly take pictures of what I get as I get it. I have decided to set up my CO2 chamber like this. I dont have easy access to dry ice and this way i will have better control. www.thereddragonsden.com/co2.htm
