My mom called me this morning to tell me that she had to put my dog Casey to sleep. She was 14 years old a few days ago.
It wasn't long ago that we lost her brother Jacob to old age, and Casey had started a slow decline shortly after that. About four years ago Casey had been diagnosed with Megaesophagus. We didn't figure she would make it (neither did the vets), but with the help of some medicine and a lot of hoping, she pulled through and began to get healthy again.
My mom woke up at 2am this morning to Casey having a bad attack. She was throwing up all over the place, and actually had a seizure (something she's never had before). Mom stayed up with her, and as soon as the vet opened she brought her in. They said that she had aspirated too much liquid into her lungs, and that there was nothing they could do.
I've had Casey since I was seven, so to say that this is a hard hit would be an understatement. I'm just glad that she gets to be with her brother again.

I am so sorry to hear about your dog! I know what that's like. I've lost several to old age/illness over the years. It never gets any easier. But she is with her brother, and they are romping and playing like pups again, waiting for you.

A candle is lit to guide Casey's footsteps on to her next great adventure. Once again reunited with a cherished brother, they again play, chase and laze in the sun. Never again will they be parted. Here they will play until once again they will be reunited with their people who loved and cared for them. Goodbye, sweet Casey, you will always be remembered ciao
