I know this is a ferret forum BUT I figured y'all have a good handle on raw food basics and probably most of you have a dog.
Our German Shepherd Puppy gets explosive diarrhea from eating raw food. We'd LOVE to keep her on raw but the amount of accidents she has from uncontrollable poo spraying has forced us to put her back on kibble. Any idea on how to aid her cannon butt?
She was getting whole ground chicken as a basic switch from kibble.
I'd also like to add that this happened the whole two weeks we had her on raw.

What did you feed her just the plain ground chicken? Did you feed her the ground chicken and kibble at the same time? It could be she has a chicken sensitivity or just because she wasn't eating any bone. Those are some ideas.

She was getting just the whole ground chicken (with the bones and everything) and after a while, a powders puppy balancer for raw food too. That didn't help.
I'm thinking it might've been from switching her too fast but I don't know. It lasted a while.
Is there a way we can slowly mix it into her kibble or no...? I read that kibble digests differently than raw so there might be a problem.
How should I reintroduce her back into raw?

I'm no expert on this but it sounds like a chicken sensitivity to me. If you try again use a different meat and I would not mix it with the kibble at all. If she will eat raw willingly then just give her that and pitch the kibble. You don't have to slowly switch them, switch them at their own pace and if they will eat it right off the bat then go for it. Hopefully Giuli will see this because she has a raw fed puppy. Chelsea also feeds her dog Bailey raw. And I'm pretty sure there are some others as well.

Ask here... pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Raw4Pets/ this is the group on yahoo that I use for my dogs. There are quite a few GSD owners/rescuer's that can help, maybe a breed specific problem? I don't know but the people there are awesome, with as much as 30+ years in raw feeding anywhere from 4 weeks old to the seniors! Our dogs are all raw fed and Jezzebelle was started at 5 weeks on whole ground chicken. Actually everyone including the Fuzz was started on whole ground chicken. My gut reaction is your pup needs more bone... Could your pup have gotten into something that it wasn't supposed to, maybe cat food or maybe even the litter box? (that's what happens here when the dogs enjoy teh kitty buffet, I was actually greeted by it this morning, happy Monday to me!) If not I'd get a can or two of pumpkin and give her some, it should help slow things down....

She also got turkey necks and some cuts of pork and all had the same reaction.
I asked my mother and she said that we switched her Cold Turkey. She eats the stuff no problem, it's just the explosion butt.
Thanks for the advice though.

are you making the raw yourself, or buying it pre-ground? one thing about pre-ground meats, is they can harbour bacteria, moreso that say, a whole piece of chicken. I know people who only feed the ground meat if they make it themselves.

She was getting raw meaty bones and some ground whole chicken.
