Well I'm in my second breeding season with my ball pythons. Last season I bred Akina, my normal female, to Xefaud, my 100% het. for pied normal male. I got 6 eggs, but one egg was infertile. I was left with 5 eggs and during incubation, I lost 3 embryos. Finally, when it was close to the time they were supposed to hatch, I cut the eggs open (common practice of breeders. Does not harm the snake unless you accidentally nick the snake) and found two baby snakes. Right before hatching, one baby died in the egg. He turned out to be severely deformed (missing an eye, spinal kinks). The other hatched but did not thrive and died later. So this year I am crossing my fingers for a better season. I'm breeding 2-3 females this season so that's 2-3 possible clutches! I'm breeding .... Akina to my male pastel, Thriller... A picture of them in an "almost lock". He wasn't quite in the right spot.... I will also be breeding Sadis, my normal female to Xefaud, my 100% het pied male normal And if she can put on the weight, I will be breeding... Shane my normal female to Auxy, my spider male I will be posting more pictures as I get locks, eggs, and eventually (cross your fingers for me!) hatchlings!

Oh, my! They are beautiful! Such a shame about the losses. I can't wait to see the (hopefully) hatchlings . Good luck!

Thanks! I'm getting really excited. I felt 4-5 follicles in Akina this week. Follicles are a good sign. She was almost locked up with Thriller again tonight, so I'm on the lookout for building and eventually an ovulation! Sadis is almost ready to begin pairing with Xefaud, and Shane still has a little weight to gain first. I will update with pictures ^ Akina a few days ago, beginning to get brighter.

Decided to also pair Akina with Auxy. Hoping for a multi-sired clutch this season. Maybe its the rain, but I just checked on Akina and Auxy and they were locked up. Bad lighting but I can assure you it is a definite lock!

Ball pythons are a passion I am guilty of too lol. I hope your breeding goes good this year.

The spider male is really interesting, I've not seen that before. I like pie-ball colored ones (I think that's what they're called?). I don't know what you have to do to get any certain color, though. My corn snake, Herman, is a loner and I honestly don't know if HE is really a HE all these 14 years we've been together.

If you post a picture of your corn snake's tail I MIGHT be able to tell you if it is a girl or a boy. Piebald is what you are thinking of. Xefaud carries the piebald gene. I hope to produce some in a few years. The spider is a fairly common morph in the ball python world. He is by far one of my most mellow snakes. I know a lot about the color/pattern morphs so I can normally tell you what your going to get when you breed two color/pattern morphs together. I don't know them all yet though since they keep coming out with new ones.

Akina has been pairing with Thriller like there is no tomorrow! Her follicles are huge! When I first felt them they were the size of marbles. Now they are like golf balls, which means she is getting closer to ovulation. I will post pictures of the ovulation if I catch it and eggs if she lays this season.

I have not updated this in a while. The one thing you learn when keeping reptiles is patience, of which, I have little. So I'm sitting here, twiddling my thumbs, waiting for something to happen.
Akina is still pairing with both my pastel male and my spider male. Sadis is pairing with both the pastel and the spider as well. I am still waiting on Shane to gain the right amount of weight to breed.
We got the corn snakes to pair up on Saturday. The male is a normal and the female is a snow (which means she is homozygous for amelanistic and anerytheristic. My spelling sucks on both of those). If the male carries no hets (which is unlikely but possible) the babies will come out normal and carrying amel and anery.
Juji, my pinstripe will probably be ready for next season as she probably won't gain the 600 grams needed to be large enough to breed by the end of this season.
Pictures to come when I get an ovulation or eggs.
