As with the rats, I'm starting over with my mice as well. I currently have 1.2 long-haired satin mice. The male is a himalayan(spelling) and the two females are blues. I believe one of the females to be pregnant but only time will tell. I plan on getting more breeder mice soon. I have a tub I plan on making into an enclosure, and as soon as that is complete, I'm going out for more breeders. Pics to come soon.

The two satin blue girls are pregnant and about to drop their litters any day now. I have pictures from when they first came home and of the other day (they are huge!) Pregnant, one girl is 48g, the other is 46g. Big girls! The male (long-hair satin himilayan) is in with an albino female(was a feeder) that I am not sure is pregnant or not, so he's in with her until she starts showing. I also got 3 new females (albino, agouti, and black) and a new male (agouti), so I have Breeding Females: 6 Breeding Males: 2 Expecting: 2 I plan to hold back a few of the females from the blue girls' litters and breed them to my agouti male when they are old enough. - long-hair blue satin (the other female looks just like her but with shorter hair) - long-hair himilayan satin The smooth haired blue female pregnant Can't wait!

Those females and that male were found in a feeder bin! Beautiful mice and I can't wait for the babies. I will be taking pictures as soon as I can find my camera. I want to take progression pictures of the babies as they grow.

Both girls dropped their litters last night. I did a quick count (so its probably not accurate) and counted 15-16 babies. I will be taking pictures in the next day or two. I don't want to stress them out. All babies had nice milk bands.

Better count of the babies today. Looks to be about 19 babies from the two litters. All appear to be developing a dark coloration so I guess we shall see what they are when they get fur in. All have milk bands and are growing well. Pictures to come when they are a week old. (28th)

Group A: The babies are now 3 weeks old. I've been slacking in the picture posting department. In the end 12 babies survived. 5 were black self females, 3 were tan females and 4 were tan males. The tan refers to having a black top and "tan" underside. These are poor quality tans though so the "tan" is actually a white color. I kept 2 black self females and 2 tan females for future breeding and fed everyone else off. I am slowly figuring out the genetics of the parents. They are all homozygous for satin, so all the babies are satin. The buck and one of the does are homozygous for long hair. I'm not sure what the standard female carries as far as angora, but I didn't check all the babies for long hair. The male carries one albino gene and one himalayan gene, which allows him to display himalayan. So some of the babies will carry himalayan and some will carry albino. All the babies carry blue. This litter was all over the place genetically.
Group B: This group consists of 1 agouti male, 1 agouti female, 1 albino female, and 1 black self female. One female is visibly pregnant. More updates as litters are born.

Group A: I have weaned 4 females and am holding them back. The rest of the litter was fed off. The blue does are back in with the himalayan male. Usually I like to give a break between litters but these girls are of a healthy weight and did not raise a full size litter.
Group B: I fed off the albino female as she was showing no signs of becoming pregnant and I needed a feeder. So group B is now 1.2. I will probably introduce another 2 females to this group after they have had and raised their first litters. One appears visibly pregnant. I will check them today (was gone all weekend and haven't checked the rodents) to see if either female is close to dropping a litter.
Breeding Females: 5 Breeding Males: 2 Hold back Females: 4 Hold back Males: 0 Expecting Litters: 2 Litters Produced: 2

Group A: The himalayan male has passed away. I'm not sure how old he was since he was full grown when I bought him. He was in with the two does for a few days but I won't know if they are pregnant for a little while longer. I've moved the 4 daughters of the two does in with them. As soon as the 4 daughters are old enough to breed I will purchase another male for that group. Upon closer inspection, two of the daughters are long haired, and the other two are standard though they will carry the angora gene due to the father. The blue does weigh around 40g each and the 4 daughters are 15-19g each. They are a little over 4 weeks old.
Group B: The black self female is about to pop any day now. The agouti female doesn't appear pregnant yet but weighs around 40g. The pregnant black self female is around 49g. The male is at 26g. (little fellow) I am considering switching the enclosures since group B requires less space than Group A (3 mice vs 6)

An update on the mice. The four females I kept from my first two litters are 5 weeks old today. Two are long hair, two are standard. Group A - Group A's tub - yes it is too small. I'm moving them soon to a larger tub. Standard Black Tan Female Long-Hair Black Self Female Group B - The black self female has made a huge nest and is huge. She should give birth any day now. Pictures of their tub (Group A will be moving into this tub and Group B will be moving into Group A's tub) to come. Plans - With permission from my husband I'm going to re-organize the animal room so that I can make more room for more tubs. I plan on breeding Group A as soon as the 5 week old females hit 8 weeks old. I used to wait until 12 weeks old but I need to be producing feeders faster. I really want to produce enough feeders for both my snakes and my ferrets. Group B will get another female or two added to them and I plan on starting up Group C which will consist of 1.5 mice.

Group B Update:
Thar she blows! The black self female is giving birth right now. When I went to feed and change water she had 3 and was still in active labor.

Group B: Five babies total. Not terribly bad for a first litter. All look good with milk bands. I plan to keep all females from this litter to form another group.

What are milk bands? And I love these little ones. Especially the long furred black self. We dont have anything nearly so fun at the stores around me.
What kinds of bins are those? Did you have to modify them at all?
