Hello my name is Keith. I am 25 years old and from Alabama.
I am currently thinking of getting my girlfriend a ferret for christmas. She has been wanting one for a while so I figured why not.
As of right now we have one yellow belly ball python (zabby), a short hair stray cat (spaz), and a rat (goober).
I am very much into all animals as you can see. Hope to become friends with all of yall.
I was also wanting to know if any of you could tell me what I would need to have for starting out with ferrets. Especially with food and housing. Thanks a lot for any info

Hi and welcome Keith You've come to the right place, this is a really great group of knowledgeable and friendly people. Please feel free to prowl the site, check out the various threads and post questions. There are no questions that are too silly so please ask away. If you go to our nutrional section you will find that we advocate a healthy holistic feeding plan for your little ones. You will note that we support raw or natural diets and have a fantastic support system geared toward assisting ferret friends toward their goals. If you feel that you need assistance check out our mentoring program, you can get one on one assistance helping your little furbaby to switch to a healthier diet. There are also sections on how to create a healthy environment, play areas, what chemicals you can or cannot use around these little creatures and their special needs and requirements. There have been threads on how to improve caging or the benefits and faults of not caging at all (my furbabies free roam the house and have an outdoor play area). There is also a section devoted entirely to the various health problems (and there are a lot) and special needs and treatments of these problem. I hope that I will be seeing you around ciao

One other really good tip? Pick up the book "Ferrets for Dummies" 2nd edition. Read it from cover to cover. It's the best investment you can make for your future fuzz! Looking forward to seeing you around

I"ve just ordered my copy and it should be here in the new year. I've used the first edition (actually wore one copy out but was lucky enough to get a second copy that came with a couple of ferrets that were handed in to rescue) for years and it was an invaluable tool. I'm looking forward to the updated information in the second edition ciao
