1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
I was looking for some litter box training tips on the Ferret Forums, and got curious when I saw the raw foods forum. I checked it out and was hooked immediately!
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I?d like to switch to a raw, non-whole prey diet. Maybe sometime in the future I can try my hand at whole prey, but at this point I think I?m gonna stick with raw. I would like to switch fully to natural. Kibble just looks so gross now.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
I have hermit crabs, and I realized that it was hypocritical of me to absolutely refuse to feed them anything processed and yet do it every day for my fuzzies. Plus two are underweight and all could use a better diet in general.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
Of course I understand~ With my fuzzies, it was a lengthy process to switch their TREATS. XD I will be moving at the end of the month, but I don?t see that as a big change, really (I?m generally pretty quick to adapt). I am more than willing to make the commitment. The only obstacle I see here is money, as it?s a little tight these days.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight?
Not all are mine, but I?ll list my roommate?s as well since they?ll be going through the process, too.
Lyra (f): two years old in December; healthy (was a bit chubby); slightly picky
Einstein (m): about seven months old; healthy (we call him the fatty only because he?s big since he?s a boy); will eat anything
Lucy (f): about four years old; underweight; she had a tumor removed, and never really gained her weight back after that; spunky even though she looks frail; picky eater
Taki (f): almost two years old; a little underweight, though not as bad as Lucy or Pan/Wendy; healthy; picky eater
Pan/Wendy (name is undecided) (f): no idea on her age, though I?d guess between 2 and 3; very underweight with hardly any muscle mass; just got her a couple of days ago; spunky though she?s small (can beat up Einstein); picky eater
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc)
Right now they get 8 in 1 Select Ferret Diet, in the past they were fed Totally Ferret (tight budget meant we had to find a cheaper alternative, and Select was the best we could come across). They get Ferretone fairly often, usually on their food, and were getting Ferretvite but we ran out.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
Nope not yet.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
We?re all a little crazy over here. ;3 We also live with eight hermit crabs and a dog (blue heeler mix) named Roo. Soon we?ll all be packing up and moving to Minnesota (only Lyra and Einstein are going with me, the others will go to Oregon with my roommate), where two cats will join the bunch.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
Every day pretty much. I don?t go to school, and really don?t do anything with my free time but get on the computer and build costumes. XD
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
