That dye color is really nice! What color are you painting the name? That'll be cool! "Perfect" is relative. Based on what I think is "perfect", I think your first collar is!

Hmmm.....maybe a bluish color, or burnt orange? Not really sure. I'm sure you'll come up with something! You could paint it a color (like regular thick paint) then ink it to make it go better with the dye color...it'll also darken up the cracks to make it stand out more. This is what we do when painting Warhammer, Warmachine, and other table-top game models

That'll actually look great! If you were to ink red (normal red), it will look more like a dark red. It'll look more like you dyed it red than painted it. Does this make sense? I don't know if inks used for models would work on leather, but I'm sure you can find inks that will. Inks are like a watered down paint that actually go over another color "clear", except it will darken or bring out the color. If you paint them red, I would use a dark red ink, or a brown ink. I couldn't find pictures of models before and after inking, but I'll find some for you so you know what I'm talking about.

Well d**n! I couldn't find good enough pictures or references to what I'm talking about. Sometimes inks are also called washes. I have no idea if they make ink for leather. Anyways, I will keep trying. Of course when I need it, I can't find it

All I have left to do now is make a keeper so the end of the collar doesnt hang out of the buckle, and it will finally be done. This is the only paint I had that would stand out against the dark dye color... What do you think? does it look ok with the paint? It looks like its choking him in this one, but dont worry its not. His fur just sticks out and makes it look really tight. And another one I just started for my sisters dog Bella, a Bullmastif

It's like the perfect color for Bailey The yellow actually looks awesome with the leather! What kind of paint do you use on leather?

Its acrylic. When putting it on leather you cant just slap the paint like you normally would. Because it will just dry as a layer on top of the leather, and will crack and peel off. I first water it down to a 1:1 ratio of water to paint. It has to absorb into the leather so it wont peel off/ crack. I put a bunch of layers on of that and keep flexing the leather it absorbs as much as possible. Then I made the paint a little thicker, and put a couple more layers on. Then after its all dry I put paint with no water added on it, to brighten the color of it. It may seem like a little over kill to do all that just for one collar but Ive seen leather that was painted without diluting the paint first and it looks kind of, well, crappy lol.
