I lost D'Artagnan today. I woke up to get ready for class and saw her curled up in her litter. I ran over to pick her up and she was cold and unresponsive. I tried to get her to eat a littler FerraVite, but she couldn't. I rushed her to the emergency vet. Her temperature didn't register on the thermometer, and the glucose they gave her didn't have any effect. Unfortunately, it was going to cost at least $400 to keep her overnight to try to get her stabilized. I just had to get a new car last week, so I just didn't have the money. I managed to get Amber on the phone, and she agreed that the best thing I could do for her was put her to sleep. I'm so worried about Muddy now. Last night, D'Artagnan was her usual self, and then to wake up this morning and find her like that . . .

Poor baby Sounds like she had a case of insulinoma for sure. How old is Muddy? I would get her blood glucose levels checked to make sure she might not have it as well.

Oh, how sad! Please keep us informed on Muddy. If he's got a clean bill of health and you are in the Columbus area, maybe we could arrange a playdate with Paulie. If you live somewhere else, I know there are other forum members in Ohio that can offer support (Ohio has such a huge ferret community anyway). Muddy will certainly need ferret friends after this. Paulie sends hugs for Muddy.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of D'Artagnan. I know you are only ferret sitting for a year, but you still fall in love with them, and it hurts to lose them. {{{{{hugs}}}}} to you and Muddy.

I will light a candle for your little furchild. I'm sorry that you had to experience this as your introduction to fuzzies. Know that she no longer feels confused or scared, she romps and plays with the little ones who have gone before. She doesn't want you to grieve her passing, you cared for her and showed her love. You gave her the ultimate gift in helping her find her way. Look after her little friend, and don't let her grieve to much for her. Help Muddy to continue to live in this life, her time isn't now.....not yet. Please keep us posted, we will try and help you as much as we can. ciao

I'm getting a glucose meter today so I can monitor Muddy. The poor baby is still eating and drinking, but still somewhat listless. I've been loving on her and playing with her as much as I can. She has begun to show a little more interest in what is going on around her, although she still occasionally sits in her cage looking lost. I put some thought into getting her a new companion, but have decided it wouldn't be a good idea. I don't want her to have to be separated (again) from a friend after a year, and I wouldn't want to do that to another furbaby either. So for now, Muddy has to make do with me and Mizby.
