Since noone else has posted anything here, I'll start! LOL WWW.RodentPro.COM has a nice, well priced selection of whole prey animals. I have not yet used them, but will be as soon as I get my fuzzies back. I've heard nothing but good things about them. Well - except recently I've heard they've been running out of stuff do to an expansion, but that shouldn't last long.

I love rodent pro. They are very fast and I like that they have a good selection of feeder animals. Prey4pets is another good online supplier.
BTW- All Holistic Ferret Mentors that are in good standing within one year of beginning to mentor get a $20 gift certificate to rodent pro (among other things). and the HF Mentor of the Year gets a $100 gift certificate to rodent pro (among other things).

Sweet! I'm gonna be the rockinest mentor ever! LOL I was planning on ordering from P4P before we moved, it's kind of far to here, though. For those wondering - www.prey4pets.com is what we're referring to. Nicole, the owner, also has a yahoo group of the same name where she offers specials and such!

Whats a mentor and how do you get to be one? Another place is South Florida Rodents, they are cheap. They do only have rats, mice and chicks though. www.southfloridarodents.com/frozenpricelist.htmI haven't ordered from them (or anyone else) but plenty of snake owners are happy with them.

Whats a mentor and how do you get to be one? I will post information about the Holistic Ferret Mentor Program (what it is, how to sign up, how to become a mentor, etc) in the "Forum Info, Rules, and Announcments" section. I will post the link to the thread once the info is up, okay?

Yup, yup. Which reminds me, we need to order some more rodentpro soon. Probably in June, that sucks though because I wanted to pick up a huge order from rodent pro when you and I head to the Buckeye bash (August 23rd). Oh well, Im sure we'll figure something out. I just worry that if we get a huge order of rodent pro in june, that we wont have to freeze space (in our tiny little ghetto freezer) to fit the august order of prey. Time to buy a freezer chest....*runs off to go look up the cost of a freezer chest*

Time to buy a freezer chest....*runs off to go look up the cost of a freezer chest* 2 words. Freecycle & Craigslist I got one off of freecycle, it was HUGE. Had to clean some frozen rotten deer out of it, not too horrible though, since it saved me $$. Sadly I sold it to my sis-in-law when we moved out here, so I'll have to find another one when we go home...

How was it frozen and rotten??? Lol..
I've gotten 3 free freezers from freecycle, one didn't work but the other two did. We gave one to some friends and the other was recycled (the one that didn't work). Ours is 40 years old and still running strong, now only if we could get a 2Nd for ourselves.

Sam's Club! And another place to look, although you feed whole prey, is Animal Food Services. If you buy 800 lbs of frozen food from AFS, you get a free freezer from Sam's. ( www.animalfood.com/freeze.htm ) So if you find someone to split the 800 pound order with, they dont have to know about the freezer. OK, so that may be alot - but t may also be a way to make a little extra $$ on the side. They are looking for districbuters, and you can have bags of some of their more tasty products and sell them at farmer's markets and stuff.

How was it frozen and rotten??? Lol.. The freezer had somehow gotten unplugged and it thawed and and got all nasty. The lady just plugged it back in, thinking it would be easier to clean out if the rottenness was frozen. She was right. I can't imagine the stench had it not been. Even once it was completely cleaned and bleached and stuff it had a slight odor that took a long time to go away...

We had that happen about 6 years ago. My grand parents died and we got their freezer since we where the biggest part of the family, the freezer was HUGE. My grand parents shopped at a disscount food store(frozen expired food), the freezer was nearly packed with frozen meat, bologna, hot dogs, turkey and a BUNCH of shrimp. My parents did security at a fair, we left to go there. We were gone for 13 days, when we came back I went to get some shrimp out. Everything was defrosted!!! Mom and dad just threw the food AND freezer away after that. There was probably 2 or 300 pounds of food in it. The power went out for 4 days in Febuary, we were out of town and I had just put a whole beaver in the freezer. When we got home the stuff in the freezer was just slightly defrosted but the beavers guts weren't frozen at all, just cold.
