Hey guys, I know my subject there sounds rather chipper, but I am not happy. I have been laid off from my job early December. I have been constantly looking for a job but it doesn't seem to be in my near future. The big problem is I need to move, back home to Toledo, now about 3 weeks ago it was all settled I would take the ferrets with me, no problem. I had them all set up for the past 2 weeks over Christmas and New Years.
Well yesterday my Mom calls and says she "cannot have a pet in my house". I've tried everything, there's nothing more I can do. I can't afford to live on my own with only unemployment. There are no jobs here, its more than likely going to take at least 3-6 months for me to find a job. Especially since I'm not looking for just any job, I'm looking to move to Chicago and work in publishing. I currently have no experience with that.
Of course, I have applied for a job to continue living down here in Dayton, its in publishing. But I'm moving January 25. I only have about 2 weeks to get this job, I don't really see it happening. I would like to find a new home for Apple and Kiwi before January 21. I'll be going out of town for a few days and just would feel better if they are at their new home before that.
So if its at all possible, I'd like someone to foster them for me. It would be at least 3 months. I am also posting this on Ferret Harmony. If you'd like to cross post this on other forums that is fine. My contact is christina.pertz@gmail.com I feed them NV Raw and I have 1 full bag, and 2 half bags left. I also feed Evo Small Red Meat bites, I have about half a 6lb bag left. I mix canned cat and dog foods (mainly Evo 95% and BG 100% meat), these are mixed with the raw and help Apple. Then I have tons of treats for them to last quite awhile. If you feed mostly kibble with a meal or 2 of raw a day this should last about 3 months, maybe less depending on how you work things.
I'm going to try this way first, if it doesn't work out I'm going to HOFA, hopefully they can work something out with me. I now live in Dayton, OH but I am moving to Toledo, OH. I can meet you somewhere. I prefer that you are at least a touching state to Ohio, if you are more than 2-3 hours away, I ask that you meet me halfway. In other words, 2-3 hours away from Dayton and I ask that you meet me halfway, or 2-3 hours away from Toledo I ask that you meet me halfway.
After 3 months if I still don't have a job, I might look into finding a permanent home for them. I cannot put my responsibility on others, and if its going on that long, it might take way too long for me to find a job and I can't afford to keep them without a job either. I don't want it to come to that.
Now for the ferret facts:
Apple is almost 2 years old sable, he used to be a biter, now he nips softly during play. He's rather pudgy, but mostly its his winter weight. I find it adorable. He eats a lot in the fall, end of October early November he starts to really eat a ton. He's not an effective digger, in that he digs, but nothing happens. He gets bored, and isn't destructive. He loves his POgOs (and I have a ton of those to go with them), he loves his Marshalls Hidey Hole fish, he doesn't sleep in it, he wrestles with it. He loves to be chased around. He loves it when I sit, and put him on his back and rub his ears and shoulders and give him a good head massage. He won't sit for long, so you gotta do this quick. If you rub his belly he gets a little happy fiesty and thats a great way to get him playing. He has never bitten my face, and I can stick my finger in his mouth and he doesn't really care. He never bites down. Apple is IBD and allergic to chicken, he cannot have raw chicken or any kibble with chicken in it. Other poultry seems fine, eggs in the kibble seem fine as well.
Kiwi is about 3-4 years old DEW, she is also deaf. She is a climber and a jumper. She can scale my big cage super easy, and she can jump straight up at least 18" if not higher. She is the most determined animal I have ever met! She loves to climb up your shirt and sit on your shoulder. She doesn't always have great balance, sometimes she thinks she can turn around when there's nothing to turn around on. She loves to stash. I have little soft balls that she steals and hides constantly. She hides crocheted eggs and toilet paper tubes as well. She doesn't cuddle either. Shes extremely hyper and hours after Apple is too tired she is still hopping and running around. She loves to war dance and she does this lunging thing, keep your face high, she doesn't aim well! She can climb up your jeans, piece of cake.
Neither are cuddlers, they love to play together. They cuddle together (it makes me jealous), and they are always playing. Sometimes its a little rough but Apple knows when to stop. Kiwi tends to do some screaming, but normally she's the one who starts things! Does all the pouncing on Apple and he's a bit a fatty and can't always reach around himself to her! lol
I love them so much, they must go to a home who will feed them what I have been, if not the raw, they must at least stay on Evo Small Red Meat bites. If you can find another kibble that does not have chicken, you could add that. But please stay away from corn and rice kibbles. That will really not help Apple or Kiwi. I know most of you know this, but I have to say it anyway. I also try to feed kitten replacer milk at least once a week in a soupie. They both love it, and thats the best way to bond with them, besides its miracle food when they have been sick.
I can ask the vet for their records if you want. Apple got rabies and distemper in February. Kiwi got hers in July.
I'm sure I'm missing some information. PM me, email me, or reply here if you have any questions. I'm going to look for the best photos to post of them. I may be biased, but they are total lovebugs!
