Where I'm located in NJ, there is a ferret rescue and shelter, Father Natures Ferret Rescue. In February of this year, Father Natures burned to the ground, losing at least 25 furries in the process. I spoke with Keith Krysz, co-owner, with his wife Evelyn and he told me that everything was gone. Vehicles, cages, everything. They're slowing down now; there was at least one surgery a week for a while for the surviving fuzzies. It absolutely breaks my heart. I don't have much money, but I do have time and a pair of hands; once he hears from the town to receive a permit to rebuild, he's going to need a lot of help. The insurance is not recognizing them as non-profit (from what I understand) and is regarding them as a business, meaning he's not getting a very large pay-out. Right now they're looking for donations and foster homes. I wanted to spread the word amongst ferret lovers, and hoping you all could spread the word, too. I'm fairly certain they'll accept any sort of cages, travel carriers, anything that anyone can muster. Check out their website here, it hasn't been updated in some time, but it has a lot of the facts. www.fathernaturesferretrescue.com/wb/Thanks everyone. Aida

Hi, I helped get the word out when this first happened and a girl on another forum said she could donate some super pet cages she has. I asked and was told Father Nature's has a safety policy that only allows Ferret Nation cages to be used.

Really? I'll have to ask Keith. I'd be surprised if they're going to be extremely selective about their cages; especially such an expensive one. Thanks to your friend for having such a big heart!

Surprised me to but thats what Rose from Angie's Song Ferret Sanctuary said who works very closely with Father Natures. This was said to me many months ago so maybe this has changed though. You should ask and find out.

I think I'm going to see them this weekend, so I'll ask him about that. I think at this point, beggars shouldn't be choosers--I thought that if we built a bunch of cages from scratch that would work, as well. Ferret Nation isn't the only good cage out there and they aren't cheap!
I'll keep you posted.
