I sadly have to rehome Chewie . My parents will no longer let me keep him. I feel so, so, so terrible about this, but he needs a home where someone can work with his aggression. He bites randomly and it's becoming a problem and I just don't have the time to help him work it out. This is at least his third home and I was hoping it was his last, but things have not worked out that way. Chewie does have adrenal, but is healthy otherwise. We started him on lupron which is about $85 a month for 4-6 monthes and then it will need to be renewed every 3 or so monthes. He is on a raw diet and I would prefer to keep him on it if possible. It has helped him so much, he is more attentive and playful since we started him on it, but if kibble works better for you then thats fine. Chewie will come with his smaller cage and some accesories totally free. He may do better in a single ferret home cause of his aggression towards other ferrets unless you are willing to keep him seperated until he calms down. I love him so much and want him to find a great home!

I don't no how old Chewie is, but have you thought about surgery? There was a shelter ferret that was HIGHLY aggressive. Would attack anyone he could, had to wear gloves, boots and long sleeves with him at all times. He was adrenal aggressive as well as a bit of a fear biter. He had his surgery and a week later he was pretty much fine. I've seen him twice since then, and he doesn't try to bite at all anymore, and I don't use "protective gear" at all. It's just a thought, and it could help with his aggression to other ferrets as well. I'm so sorry that you have to though, if surgery isn't an option to try I'll be keeping you both in my thoughts and I do hope it works out for you both *nod*

We discussed with the vet and decided since we don't know really any of his past and that surgery might be a little to risky to start lupron.

I'm sorry that you are having to rehome Chewie. If you find a person to take him that agrees to keep him on raw, could you please make sure that they come to Holistic Ferret (be sure to tell them who we are, give them our link, and let them know that we will provide assistance and monitoring to help keep Chewie on his diet)? This way, we can monitor Chewie and make sure they are feeding him the diet properly.

I'm sorry you have having to find Chewie a new home BigSis.
I live in Portland Oregon, so it would be quite the drive to get him over to the west coast!
I wish both of you luck in finding him the perfect home.

I'm sorry your having to rehome him.. You were very mature about the whole ordeal, some people don't even give a animal a chance. All my babies have needed a second, or even third chance. You tried your best.

I just feel so helpless though, because I couldn't help him. I feel like I've let him down. I'm homeschooling now so my parents may give me a little longer to find him a home, so I can try to help him to prove he can be a good ferret and who knows maybe they'll let me keep him.

I'm not sure how long you've had him but I can tell you from experience, that it takes time. Twitch was an aggressive ferret. She would bite to draw blood any chance she got. We invested in some gloves and some bitter apple spray. Once she got the idea that biting was bad, she calmed down and has been great ever since. But it did take time.
I hope things work out. I would take him but I know nothing about adrenal disease or its treatments. I would have no clue how to care for him and his adrenal disease.
