YAY!! That's awesome! So glad he took it by himself even if it was from your fingers or the spoon! Sounds like he's making progress! If he eats the mush by himself go ahead and add another meat in with it. Keep me updated!

I have no idea if I'm being paranoid right now or not. Mogli has been a bit less active than usual and is eating a bit less. It's hot out so I wasn't too concerned at first. Then I noticed that there were a few small chunks of foam taken out of the mattress in the main bedroom. I'm pretty sure I felt a bump that could be a blockage but I'm not sure.
For the time being, I'm keeping an eye on him and giving him lots of hairball laxative and olive oil to try and get things moving. If I don't see any runny poop in the litter box in the morning though, I'm calling the vet and getting my bf out of bed early.
I'm really concerned but since he's still active and still eating and drinking on his own, I'm going to wait and see how things turn out. I just hope my baby boy will be fine.

You can never be too paranoid with a ferret. There's so much they can get in to. Watch him closely. If he becomes lethargic or is having trouble going to the bathroom he should probably go to the vet. Just in case. As long as he's eating, drinking, moving, and pooing, even a little bit, he should be ok. Also watch Ozzy, too, just in case he was the one who ate the foam. Keep me updated!

Everyone is ok now. Mogli pooped out the foam and there's no more bump! I just let the boys out for their morning romp and he's up to his usual antics of trying to get into everything!
And to be honest, I checked Ozzy first for any signs of a blockage before it even occurred to me to check Mogli. I love them equally but Ozzy is still my baby boy and is kind of my favorite because he's so squishy and bouncy.
In any case, Mogli is probably going to be having some seriously seedy poops at least for today. I panicked and gave him about a week's worth of hairball laxative. But at least I warded off the possibility of putting my bf into more debt than he's already in... He figured that because the boys are young, there's still time to put money aside for them. At least I'm seriously on the job hunt again and it looks like I have a few options.
And on to the actual topic... I'm planning on adding some chicken thigh meat to Mogli's mush and tomorrow I'll be adding either turkey or pork (I couldn't tell which one I grabbed out of the freezer... I'll know later).

Mogli seems to like the taste but hate the texture of the new meat. I added in pork which had a lot of fat on it so there are still some stringy pieces. Since he hates having to chew, I got to see his best sneer a lot. I'm considering just fishing out all of the stringy fat pieces so he'll actually eat the new meat without protest. After all, both Ozzy and Hermes will be happy with some extra fat in their diet. Especially Hermes since he's nothing but muscle.

Hmm yeah I guess pork is pretty fatty. If he's eating the fat, even though he's sneering, just let him continue. This will hopefully get him to start chewing his meat. Maybe just leaving a few pieces in his soup? Either way should work though. You're doing great!

Well, my life is just getting hectic... I should be able to keep to a feeding schedule for the boys but I'm not sure. I'm going to try and keep things the same as much as possible but they might be on kibble only for a day or so.
My sister is in the hospital. She's about to give birth to her third baby and I want to be able to help out as much as possible. I'll be able to feed the boys their normal meal in the morning but I'm not completely sure about the evening. I'm planning on leaving kibble out just in case I'm not home when I should be.
For the time being, I still have to feed Mogli by hand and Ozzy is going to be fed a lot less. I'm going to try and stick with raw for the ferrets but I'm just not sure yet. I'll figure it out when the craziness subsides.

Yep sounds fine! As long as they get a bit of raw or whole prey, sometimes thats all we can do. Alright I wish you luck with your decision! Good luck to your sister!

I made my final decision about what I'm going to be feeding the ferrets. I'm going to be able to keep them on raw. Sadly, I'm going to be switching the cats to canned food. I wish I didn't have to but I can't make my boyfriend spend that much money on them while they don't eat everything I put up for them.
I have enough mush to last until tomorrow which is when I'll be getting more meat for the boys. If I buy enough chicken, turkey, and pork to make it worth my while, I should have enough meat to last them at least 2 months. Since I doubt that more than $30 will be spent on the meat, it's a pretty good deal.
In other news: Mogli is still eating kibble but I think that as long as I stick to mild meats for him, I should be able to remove the kibble from the cage for good in a couple of weeks. For the time being, giving regular meals of raw outside of the cage seems to be working wonderfully. Mogli is really starting to bond with me since I hold him while he eats and he's a lot more active. I think his activity level is partially because of the raw food and partially because he's finally getting comfortable here. He's finally starting to play the same games as Ozzy does and he's running around a lot more.

I'm so glad you're going to still be able to feed your ferrets raw! $30 is a really good deal for 2 months. Thats about how much I was spending a month for 2 ferrets. Yay! So glad Mogli's doing better! They do seem to bond with us really well when we hand feed them, huh? Chewie and me bonded more when I did that. I'm also glad he's starting to play more!! Bre has started playing quite a bit more the past couple of days! Well let me know if you have anymore questions! You're doing great!

The cheap meat is just another great part of living in an area with a large Hispanic population. There are several warehouse type stores that cater to minorities in my area that are very inexpensive. It's always nice to be able to find high quality chicken for less than $2 a pound. The pork is lower quality and contains a salt solution but I soak it for at least 2 hours before portioning and freezing it.

Well that's awesome that you can find good deals! Hopefully I'll be able to find something in Alberta, Canada that's cheaper than here. Not counting on it though, lol!

Just wanted to update. My boyfriend was hesitant about going grocery shopping to say the least. He hates the store so he does everything he can to put off going there. We finally got around to shopping at around 3 am... I was a bit peeved.
In any case, I'm going to be sorting and repacking a LOT of meat today. I got some chicken gizzards and hearts along with split whole chickens. I was also able to pick up some pork picnic (it's a wonderful cut) for about 80 cents a pound. I also grabbed a couple of game hens to help with the bone content.
I know it's not the best variety but I wasn't sure of what else to get. Mogli doesn't eat beef and most other meats just cost too much. I still have a bit of turkey in the freezer so that will have to do for my 3rd meat.

I think that's a pretty good variety and at least you guys got to the store ;]! Better than nothing although I wouldn't like to shop at 3 am... Let me know how Mogli does on the new meat!
