Hello there! I'm Stephanie. I'm located up in Ontario, and have been interested in ferrets for a few years. I'm a huge animal lover, but am limited by allergies. I was ecstatic when I found out I wasn't allergic to ferrets. (But there is a huge chance I'll scoop up a pair from kijiji once I'm supplied, haha)
I've been introduced to reptiles in the last year, and am loving them, but I still intend to get a pair of fuzzies when I am able to. I want to be educated and product/equipment ready to find the perfect pair of ferrets for myself by next breeding season.
I've been slowly researching and gathering information, mostly focusing on behavior, training, ferret proofing, and, of course, food. I heard about, and was intrigued by raw feeding. Feeding raw food to a carnivore makes perfect sense. From reptile knowledge, I guessed I'd need additional supplements. I figured I'd feed raw, have a respectable kibble available for all day munching, and find out which supplements to use.
Then I found this forum, and it blew my mind. I LOVE the idea of whole prey, with added meaty variety. It makes so, so much sense, and hey, I already have dead rats in my freezer, so I might as well have more.
Also, this seems like an absolutely fantastic forum! I've been reading threads and am so impressed by everybody's awesome attitudes, willingness to learn, and dedication to their pets. So I'm very excited to be here and learn about ferret care and to take part of this community.
Nice to meet you all!

Thank you! 8]
I'm very excited for when I'll be able to get them. I've recently been introduced to somebody who has one, and it made me go: It's adorable. It's awesome. I could totally do this.

I want to extend a special welcome to you. I love someone who does their research before they get their furkids I run a rescue/sanctuary and one of the biggest problems is the misconceptions and lack of knowledge that lands these little ones into a rescue situation. One of the things you may want to do as well is check out your vet situation. Ontario....I live here so I know....is not ripe with ferret type vets and even some that claim to work with them are best left alone I've had more than a couple of emergency calls when someone has discovered their regular vet will not look at and knows nothing about ferrets and their ferret is in a real need (as you are probably aware that's not the time to try and find a vet). Please feel free to prowl the site, check out the various threads and ask questions. No question is too stupid or silly . If the question is there, then it's worth asking, even if we've answered it before, we can direct you to a section or thread to help you. How else are you going to learn Everyone here is friendly and have one passion .... their little fuzzbutts. I hope I will be seeing you around ciao

Hi, and welcome to the forum! I'm so glad you are doing all your research before getting your fuzzies. I just kind of fell into it, and man- it was a very steep learning curve But they all survived my bungling, and are now happy and thriving Please feel free to browse, ask all the question you want. As you've noticed, people on here tend to be very friendly, and truly enjoy helping!
