So I bought some chicken and ground turkey at the grocery store because they did not have much of a selection. I tried the ground turkey and they loved it! I think I am going to mix some crushed eggshell in it on friday and see how that works. Can they eat ground meat frozen? I herd it will keep longer in their cage if frozen. Also how long will meat keep in their cage? I think I am going to stick with feeding raw 3 days out of the week. It just works better for me. Don't worry, I am a big baby too when it comes to furry animals. That is why my husband is going to feed the chicks and mice!

Good, Im glad they took to the ground so well!
Actually raw meat can sit out pretty long (I was surprised to find out)! I am going to post the list of things fed and how long they can stay out, since its in another post I want to copy and paste it so I get it exactly right. The only reason I would let it thaw out is because first off they may not eat it frozen, plus meat that is frozen lacks in taurine, which is also essential to their diet....The freeze process depletes the taurine (this is why I add it as a supplement in their weekly soups, but its not absolutly necessary to supplement)
With the crushed egg shell you can actually just give them a whole raw egg, shell and all....eggs are part of their diet in nature, although the rule of thumb usually is one egg a week (though you can put in ground egg shells anytime!)

Hey Christina! Sorry I have not posted in a few. I have been having family issues so it has been hard to get to the computer. I have also not been able to feed them any raw since the last time, but I am going to do some more tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes.

Heres the list of "timing and meats"
Here are some general guidelines assuming the meat is cold (thawed, but taken from the fridge)when served and the ambient temperature us 70 degreees. (and food is not sitting in the sun, near a heat source, etc.)
Wet Kibble: 4-8 hours Ground meat: 12 hours Freeze-dried Diet (served wet) 12 hours Commercial Raw frozen diet 12 hours Meat chunks: 16 hours Bone-in meat: 24 hours Whole prey (meat exposed): 24 hours Whole prey (no meat exposed) 36 hours Freeze-dried diet (served dry) Over 1 week (the primary concern is palatability rather than bacterial issues)

Thanks for the info! That helps a lot! The feeding went great but I haven't fed since then. Things around my house have not been as usual but hopefully we can get back to normal now.

I'm so sorry Christina! I have some big news. I am pregnant! That is why things have been weird. Everybodys mind has been on other things and I have not been feeling too hot. I am really going to try and get things going again. I will be going grocery shopping tomorrow and I will buy a few things. So yeah the ferrets are good so dont worry!

If you could at least post maybe once every 2-3 weeks, it would help us stay on track with the switch.....I know things must be hectic for you right now but if I can get a feel of where things are with Mowgli and Luna that would be helpful to remain on track
