It has been almost three weeks since your sister-gerbil passed away, little Amalthea, and you must have decided she had that nest ready for you. I knew the odds of your lifespan being long were slim, because rodents bond so close to their cagemates and seldom bond with new ones. For a week now you've been fighting a respiratory roller coaster, because you always were a fighter after all. It was so hard to convince you to drink the water with your medicine in it and even then it didn't do much good. So you bustled and tidied the house with your labored breaths to make sure everything was in order. Then quietly you left for the bridge. I guess you thought Paulie was ready to take up being in charge of the house. Say hello to Bub in his pond full of betta girls to show off to and Ebony in your nest under the sunflowers and pumpkins for me. Ebony may have loved sunflowers, but you were always a peanut and pumpkin girl. Paulie and I are missing you. He's already looked in your empty cage all sad and meandered off to nap.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your little furchild. I will light a candle for her, but it truly sounds like she decided that she needed to follow her friend and continue her nest building at the bridge. May you always find little bowls of pumkin seeds and peanuts to keep you happy little girl, goodbye little Amalthea ciao

I'm so sorry Amalthea decided she needed to join her friend so soon! I'll be thinking of you.

I'm sorry to hear that you've lost not just one, but two little ones so close together.
