Just a quick update. things have been pretty stressful here for a while,k so we haven't tried the meats again yet. I switched litter and diesel got sick, he dropped alot of weight over a few days and wouldn't eat, he would just lay in my arms and not barely move. I am not sure if it is something to do with the new litter, which is a pine pellet(though I am going back to the yesterdays news) he has been slowly getting better he has at least been eating when hand fed now, and he will still kill the mice just not eat much but I just hope he keeps improving. A lot of stresses lately. And to top things off our yearly inspection is this week coming up and I am worried about the ferrets, I checked with the housing office before we got them but we are technically no pets and I never got anything in writing, so we will either have a place to live next weekend or not based on someones mood when they come by... I will not be on much this week but will be hopefully back to normal by next weekend, and hopefully diesel continues to get better.

It could very well be the litter. I had a couple of guys react to the litter and it was suggested that they might be reacting to the oils from the pine pellets. All I know was that Attila stopped coughing and wheezing when I stopped using it. It's the only time I've ever seen him almost skinny. I hope you pin it down, it's always terrible when you have a sick fuzzy and can't really pin down why . Special hugs going out to Diesel...get better little buddy. Good luck with your inspection. I hope everything goes over well. I've heard too many stories this week of people having to give up their furbabies. I will keep my fingers crossed that everything goes without a hitch. ciao

Well it was a tough wait, things seem to have gone ok, they came in and didn't say anything bad, my husband pointed out they might still send a letter...but the biggest jump is over...fortunately my guys upstairs are in the closet...literally, it is a soft door so I can partially close it to keep the light out during the day then half their cage is dark, so the guy didn't even notice them. The thing is we had permission to get them but it was verbal and not in writing so if they came in after having a bad day ffit done...and they are the type to do that. They abuse the fact that most people in their units have no other choice but to rent there, some days they are ok and then others they do the whole we never said that....I hate being here, and if I knew what they were like before I would have waited until we moved before expanding our ferret family but that wasn't an intentional expansion either... Anyways it's over and I am good to go now...
Diesel got better almost right away after taking the pine out...sooo....no more litter switches for us, what we know and trust is good enough. Little girl still won't touch anything new, not even new treats or furball stuff... a work in progress...going back to soupie as an option I guess, at least it is something... I'll check back later.

I'm so glad that your inspection went well. That must be such a relief. It's so difficult when rental facilities/companies make life difficult. They shouldn't be able to hold a knife over your head about whether you're allowed to keep your furbabies or not I'm glad that Diesel is getting better and it appears that it was the pine litter that was causing the problem. At least you have a solution. That's good. So, Trouble is still giving you trouble Is she taking to the soupy any better or have you had time to work with her while trying to get things ready for your inspection? I will check with you tomorrow and see how things are going. ciao

Well, if I hold here and make the tip of the spoon go into her mouth she will swallow the soup, she doesn't like to eat it on her own, and I tried scruffing her to get her to eat the meat and got nipped for my trouble... I am wondering if I should just call it good and archive my thread? I can keep trying periodically but she really has no interest in anything that's not kibble or ferretone, she couldn't care less about the prey thing if they let her she would probably curl up and sleep with the mice... Everyone else has switched to the whole prey easily and I am thinking they might accept raw now if I offer it, but honestly I am happy with the whole prey and I can know they are getting balanced diets. Trouble is my last hurdle and I can force her to eat the soup so maybe just do that, for now and post a quick question here or there if I come to any more bumps in the plan... What do you think? I sure do appreciate all the help I have gotten here and when ever anyone asks me about ferrets I always mention this site.

If you don't mind keeping your thread open, let's try and get Trouble eating your soupy. If she's eating it off the spoon you're getting there. She's just living up to her name that's all I would hate to see you give up here, when I think she may actually be thinking about eating your soupy. Let's see what you're feeding the rest of the crew....can you make up a weeks menu? If you're up to it lets play with this a little while longer, you're really making progress and like you said all except your little Trouble is now eating prey. If you feed a combination of prey and whole meats you would have a balanced diet and be able to stop feeding kibble to everyone except Trouble (at the moment). Think about it and get back to me. ciao

well no new news. going to try the other guys back on other raw meats because I am having supply issues for the prey... the new ones always come in with mites now, and I am getting tired of treating my ferrets food... so we will see how that goes this week.

Do your guys eat their mice live or frozen? If you freeze your mice doesn't that kill the mites? I know that if you freeze game meats for 2 weeks or more it kills most parasites that might be in the meat. What about checking out some of the snake and reptile people to see if any of them have excess prey that they want to sell off. How's Trouble doing? ciao

I haven't tried feeding them frozen, I will try it. Diesel is under the weather again so I am going to e pretty busy keeping fluids in him.
