Hi my name is Jasmine and I have been assigned as your mentor. I have not been around much but now I'm back. I have read your posts and it looks like you are off to a good start. Pork neck is ok but I would only give it once in a while more so as a filler for the other meats then a meal on its own. I feed my guys once a day in summer, unless i see them looking for food and then they get an extra meal. And twice a day in the winter. They seem to eat more in the winter. Mine eat lots of chicken and game hen. When i go shopping I pick up lamb, beef ( mine like ox tail) and I buy for the house steak and get it cut up into servings and they get the ends that dont make a good steak meal for us people . They also get rabbit, mice, chicks, rats, and goat. Mine also do the litter breading so dont worry about it. I would also give him a few more days with the poopy butt, give him some plain pumpkin and if that does not work take him in to the vet. Thats all for right now. Feel free to bombard me with all of your questions

Hi, Jasmine! So which kind of pork cut would be best? I just got it because it was that, or pork feet, pork tail, or pork neck. But the other stores have more The lamb and beef was ridiculously priced! So I will wain until it is on sale, and look around to compare prices .I really want to get some frozen mice for them, but if I got pinkies would they eat it? they would obviously still be frozen. Would "mice day" be a good substitute to "organ day"?

If you go the mouse route I would get more then just pinkies. They dont really offer all they need nutrtion wise. Mine get a mouse "kibble" and by that I mean when they get their mice its a mixture of Pinkies, Hoppers, and Adult mice. Since I feed mine whole prey a few times a week I do not have an organ day. So I would say if you feed mice you dont need an organ day. As for pork lots of people i know do feed the necks so they are ok(as i have been just told--willing to admit I dont know everything ). I feed Pork Shoulder Blade Steak becuase it has a nice mix of meat, muscle, and bone. To get mine to eat mice at first I had to cut them up and with some of them play tug of war but I did not have half the problems gettting them to eat their mice as I did the chicken soupy. I let the mice thaw in the fridge over night and then they are not frozen (even though mine have gotton them straight from the freezer and still eat them no problems.)

Hi! OK, so they got Cornish game hen neck with some ribs and a Cornish game hen wing-breast part. I wasn't too good breaking it up. . so what do you think if they get a new meat every other day? they got pork neck the other day, chicken wings the next and Cornish game hen yesterday, so today maybe I can get some beef? will any cut work? Because I have been getting which ever is cheapest... And they LOVE bone!!! Is that normal? because they just love it! Taccato is the main bone lover, she is the oldest so I thought she would hate meat, will... she loved from the start! And it so SO funny to watch them devour the meat As for Snickers I may try to add some more bone, but his poops have always been more runny that the others, but have gotten better since he got off kibble.

Ok I understand what you were saying about the pinkies, and yes thats fine I started mine out on pinkies too. Just so you know some of mine on mousey day will eat two or three big mice each. Here is what mine get in a week--mind you I never really assigned a meat a day but I try to give a mix each week.
Monday--chicken (assorted parts) Tuesday- mice Wednesday- lamb, beef or pork Thursday--Chicken Friday--baby bird (chicks or quail) Saturday- mice Sunday--lamb, beef or pork and egg
Beef I feed whatever I can get for them thats cheap and in my area that is ox tail, they like the meat and it has bone. Some of mine really like bone and some of them dont so I would not worry that you have bone eaters its just what your guys are

Are you leaving the food in their cage, feeding area, ect after you give them their food or are you only leaving the food out for a bit and if they dont eat it taking it away??
If you leave the food out for them just keep an eye on them to make sure that they are not losing weight.
If you take the food away after a certain time frame then i would say yes feed them more often

I want to keep things clean so I put them in a large rubbermaid tub, when they are done, I let them out and put the meat away. I wi;; try to start feeding them at least twice a day. I am going to feed them right now, And I am goig to take some wings and pork.

Ok, So I just put in a small pork neck for them, Treeble does not like to wait until it thaws, because ti her it is a popsicle. Anyways, I need to go shopping for some more stuff. They have been getting bones in pretty much every day, should there a day or two without bones? or should that just be like beef day? Do you know of a beef cut that is generly cheaper than the others? Oh, why do ferret tails smell like urine? can I get the smell off?

OK lets see your questions and my answers:
Tails smell like urine? Not sure why, you might need to change thier bedding and litter more often. You do not want to give them to many baths.
Cheap beef cuts? I just uasally look around the meat section and buy what is cheapest when I am in the store.
Feeding bones everyday? Yes it is ok if they do not get bones everyday. Mine do but I know others that only feed bones 4-5 times a week and their ferrets are fine.
Since you do not leave the food out for the ferrets you need to start feeding them at least 3 times a day. Also make sure that the ferrets have access to the food for between 30 minutes to an hour. Ferrets are like cats in that they need several small meals a day. Dogs can be feed once or twice a day and be fine, ferrets and cats can not. Even though my ferret get feed twice a day they have access to food all day long, since their food stays in the cage.
You said that you did not like a mess and that is why you feed in a container. May i ask what "mess" you are talking about.
Thanks
JAsmine

They drag their food around their cage, and it gets blood on their bedding sometimes. Also, I am paranoid about samanalla-raw meat. But I may start to just leave it out, the last few days I have just l;eft it out in their bin, and if they want it thay just get my attention and I put them in it, and every onr but Snickers can get out Mainly because he is a *tad* over weight, but I think it is just the way he is built. Do you think I f I make a feeding den it would be OK? They are out during the day while I do my work, so they are out a fair amount. Also, I have carpet so I really dont want them to drag it every where. Also, it doesnt smell too much like urine. Taccato it literily yellow! once she was her fur was very white, but now its yellow!
