AT night I get to take home a baby ferret from work because it came in too young I think. The paper work said he was born in the first week of May. So I am guessing he is two months old or less. My question is, Is it normal for a baby ferret to cry a lot? I dont mean all the time. When he see's a person he wants to be held. He is running around my apartment right now and crying here and there. He seems pretty healthy. He came in with a runny eye and one was shut. Today he has been fine. His breathing is also clear. Would you also think it safe if I let him play around my ferrets? He follows me around everywhere. He's so freakin cute, he is even chasing my cats.

One of the people on another forum I'm on posted a vid(sorry, can't find it right now) of her baby ferret. He cried, and cried- a lot! The only thing that helped was cuddling him. He was lonely, scared, and missing his mamma.

Yeah thats how this little guy is. Every room I went into in my apartment he followed and he would sleep on my foot. Another time he was sleeping on the floor and he suddenly woke up looking for me and crying until he found me. Was just scared he was in pain o.r something because of all the crying. But he's fine. I am so happy that I have a Ferret Nation cage so I can block one of the levels off for him to sleep in. A few minutes ago I introduced him to my two boys and they went crazy sniffing him and licking him, the baby did not seem to mind it at all.

Most ferrets will accept kits quite readily. Just watch that they don't try to dominate him. At his age and size, it would be terrifying for the poor little tyke! And yes, cuddle him all he wants . It'll help him to feel a lot more secure.

Is it really this normal for a baby ferret to cry so much? I keep getting worried there is something wrong with him. He is also not eating as much I thought he would for his age.

Oh, he is such a tiny little mite! So sweet . What kind of food is he on? I'd gather he's still getting a mush of his kibbles? Because he looks too young yet to be eating straight dry. You could try giving him some soupies. I'd bet he'd love it! And I still think he's crying because of all the changes in his life right now. His world's been turned upside down. Taken away from his mamma and siblings, put into a pet store. Probably given hard dry food he can't eat. Taken to someone's home, then being shuttled back and forth between two places constantly. He's scared and lonely, and wants some reassurance. You won't spoil him by giving him all he needs when he's with you. It'll just help him gain some self confidence.

Oh yeah he's real cute. Everyone at the store says he's a good salesman because of how cute all his crying is. LOL. Unfortunately I have to feed him a mixture of Duk Soup and Marshall's Kibble because of the one year guarantee for the customers.

I am guessing he is also crying because he is teething. Is there anything good I can give him for that other then a puppy Kong?

Chicken wing? He's at your house, so I'd do it there. At the store, I'd give him a Cheweasel. And even though he has to have the Marshall's, I'd still be wetting it into a mush for him. Otherwise he could wind up with a prolapse. He shouldn't be getting hard kibble until he's about 3 months old.

Here's a link to show what they are: www.hyperfur.com/ my guys haven't bothered with them since they've been on raw, but a lot of fuzzums like them, and since the little one your sitting is a pet store ferret, it may be appropriate while he's in the store!

The pet store that I work with, actually took the hint and started feeding their baby ferrets chicken wings. They discovered that despite feeding these little ones crappy kibbles (they're marshals), they smelled less and had nicers coats, they also bit less allowing them to sell them much faster too. The other thing is did was make the buyers think about how ferrets should be fed. The one ferret actually went to a person who decided to learn about raw feeding and he's now on a natural diet. In the end it also cost them less because the organic meats butcher two stores down, donated all the wings that the little ones would eat Just a thought ciao

Nice. I want to try and talk my boss into that too. But its going to be hard. So far the baby is getting along with my boys and the cats. The only thing my ferrets are doing that I dont like is the dominating thing. But I guess they will eventually stop. Skunkers still does it to Thomas now and again.
