well, the vet's office called me this afternoon - not only do they not have the desi (which i was told yesterday). they don't have any lupron either. so no shot for taco tonight

i called the other vet and they have 1 desi, so taco will be getting that on monday. she said she's not been able to get in touch with the company in australia - that faxes aren't going through and emails aren't being responded to.

the first vet confirms what yours is saying about the desi. not being available until february.

{{{heather}}} that is SO kind of you to offer the meds!!!! please don't take it away from any of yours that need it though!! if i have to, i can use the lupron until the desi is available again - although, i don't know if that is good to do (switching back/forth with the meds. i need to send messages off to the company that makes the desi. as well as the vet here that is doing the study - basically need more info than what's currently available!! also, i'll probably post on fml & fhl, too. i have many, many, many questions at this point!!

i did a good look-over of all 4 last night:
- boo has a prolapse again (as he did before the lupron was started and also had ibd symptoms as he seems to be having now: runny poo) and he's become the madgroomer again and his fur is sparse and no winter weight and he's actually lost a bit, so he needs something.
- chauncey is still a fairly decent weight - just no add'l for winter. he's blah and pouty tho - the ear sucking seems to have subsided over the past couple weeks. fur looks good still. someone is not eating right in that cage tho - could be him or taco (or both). so, i have to pull someone out for a couple days to see who's doing what.
- finola is all kinds of scraggly-looking as i said before and is not pleasant almost all the time - she definitely needs something, too.
- duncan has not gained any winter weight and his fur is rough and sparse (he looks worse now, fur-wise, than he did at the beginning of treatment with lupron. he's not showing any aggression like before treatment was started...does sleep a lot more than previously tho (that could just be an age thing, tho, and he's at boo's age or a little older or maybe a lot older - just don't know).

i need to pull all the weight info together and get it into the excel chart. i've got all the info at both vet offices to add in as well as my figures that i've been doing (they're just on sheets of paper). the weight w/date info will give an idea of what's happening.

the symptoms really say it all though. and i am severely disappointed this stuff didn't last longer!

k. so, since the vet appt is cancelled tonight, i'll be able to do something with the 3 - hopefully they'll like the gibby's!!

Let me know if you need that stuff or if your vet can indeed make use of it. There may be a couple of shots available. The other little guy is really at the end of his rope and I don't know if his person is at the end of her rope in dealing with this (he's had the surgery, only to have his symptoms return in about 9 months, the lupron worked for quite awhile but stopped working in November, so he may not survive until the new meds come in) I haven't talked to my vet since last week when she was going to email and ok the shipment. I've started Lady "B" on melatonin today. If she's like Pooka, along with the raw feeding, if it's indeed adrenal, she should be good for quite awhile before she needs something stronger. So, I wouldn't be taking away from my guys to share with your guys
I'm a little disappointed that it didn't last longer but I think that even with the des we're looking at a bandaid solution. I've maintained this all along. I think we need to look at these various meds as stepping stones to help lengthen and provide better quality of life rather than something more permanent. A few years ago, melatonin was the big cure....then came lupron....now the medicine of the day is deslorin, I don't think any of them really provide us with a solution. I really think the solution, is not something most of us are willing to truthfully consider.....leaving the ferret aux natural

hey there!

the giblets didn't go over well - just the boys gave a try and only ate very, very, very tiny piece or two and then stashed. grizel at least will sniff at stuff even if she turns away. so, this will just take more effort on my part. i know that - it's just been almost completely impossible to find time to focus on it. they do better with taking the rcgh - so, i may just focus on giving that until they're eating more than one or two bites. they willingly lick any liquids off my fingers tho - regardless of whether it's chicken, duck, turkey, lamb, etc. so, the boys are very switchable - it's just a matter of finding the 'thing' that gets them going. grizel really isn't interested at all. barely takes notice and only sometimes comes over to take a sniff at what i'm offering

she's gonna be the last one to move over.

having them positioned to easily see the others eating the raw and having it right there for them to get a good smell of it hasn't made any difference in their interest level.

i had another sinus infection - so, down a week with that since it went secondary. now have to go to the ent again and basically demand that the deviated septum be dealt with. should have been taken care of years ago...the ent said it wasn't 'bad enough' huh?? i'd had 4 sinus infections in less than a year! i think that qualifies as bad enough! *sigh*

i got taco his desi shot - and he's got even more energy now! the vet didn't believe it when i said he's insulinomic because he was bouncing all over the place (his bg is perfect on the prednisolone). he's even more active since the new med has gotten through his system. he's had a tiny bit of fur come back - which may not be related to the shot since it's only in one spot and the rest of him is still bare of undercoat and nothing looks to be coming in. he's lost weight - i guess because of more energy. he's actually been running through the tubes!! he's not done that before, so, i'm really glad to see the exuberance

still have to get back to the woman at peptech - and now i see the floods are hitting the se area of australia such a bad situation in the ne area - really sad to hear it's spreading further. plus, it's probably going to interfere with their production schedule...so, that'll be a problem for many.

really confused as to what's going on with the others with regard to the deslorelin. finola now has fur on her tail (albeit orange colored) and she's gained muscle mass back. boo has put on some mass/weight and so has chauncey. duncan is the same. the behaviours are still there for the most part. so, i'm still wondering what's going on with the med - is it fluxuating or is it not working and i'm just seeing the usual hormone levels fluxuating? really just don't know!

i'm still a couple weeks yet for year-end activities at work - so, won't be doing much with the 3 on the raw front. boss just finally went to florida over the weekend, so, i'm very behind due to him still being here and having to go back/forth from the office to his house and run extra errands because of him recovering from surgery. and i lost most of last week to being sick and snow fall. we're gonna get another storm this week, too.

so, just wanted to touch base - had meant to post over the weekend and got sidetracked. hope you're having a good year so far!! (it's gotta be better than mine, anyhoo, lol)

I'm sorry that you've got another sinus infection that has to be horrible. I hope that your specialist will finally consent to do something constructive about it rather than just throwing medications at it.
Sounds like the des is working....I noticed that Jennifer posted in her des report that her guys were showing marked hormonal fluctuations. She also noted that this appears to have begun with the natural "season" as well. This may indeed just be seasonal fluctuations that you're observing. That's fantastic improvement for Taco. I find that though fur is great, it sometimes doesn't show the degree of health that the ferret is enjoying. Pooka put on fur with this lupron shot but she's not doing as well physically as she did with the last lupron shot. We're going to give her a des in the next week or so. The other guys are going to get their des shot next week (it finally came in).
The floods are horrible and the rain season starting up isn't helping the situation. I know that from a conversation with Heather (foxfire) who is living in Australia and has family in the flooded areas.
Keep poking at them with their raw, patience is a wonderful thing. Get better, that's more important. We're in this for the long haul
