Tweek the day we brought him home
6/26/09 rip
Tweek is the ferret I was determined not to buy, a sign up at the pet store had " male ferret for sale, very friendly, can't keep anymore". We had our three girls and weren't planning on adding any more. Next time I came in, the sign was still there and the store owner filled me in on your story. Your owner was a "trader", she bought pets left and right, got tired of them and got a different one. Your owner said you didn't get much time out, that you lived in a dog kennel and she fed you cat food from Walmart. She wanted a hedgehog now instead.
I hit the ATM and got $40 and called her, she brought you down, I made sure you looked mostly healthy and called it a deal. She said your name was Harry but this was a new life, new name. She told me you got baths everyday because you stunk.
We set you up in your own cage by yourself and let you right out to play. You were thin, hipbones sticking out and after 10 minutes you put yourself up, too tired and ended up sleeping on the cage floor because you couldn't figure out how to get into the hammock. Watching you try made my heart break.
It was a rough start, terrified of the other ferrets, you pooped and screamed when they so much as looked at you. After a couple weeks you were fitting right in and then picked on newbies when we added more. You never took to raw, the mice were just more friends, you loved my cat too even though she only swatted you away.
I don't know what happened, you died in your sleep after only two years with us, we didn't know your real age but according to your first owner you would be around 6. I thought we would get more time together but I'm glad you got to enjoy a couple years of free roam and ferret friends and people who loved you.
