So I'm looking for places that supply meat where I'll be moving. Well I found a few places that let people buy (or they just give for free) piglets that are born stillborn! Would this be ok for the ferrets to eat? Also the piglets I guess are saved for bear hunters. If I were to find a bear hunter, would bear meat be ok for the ferrets? I know in the wild a polecat/ferret would never have bear, but would it still be ok for them? Thanks!

I don't see why they wouldn't be. And you never know, BFF's and other wild weasels just might eat bear, if they came across a carcass.

I wouldn't do bear.. I know some have trichinella.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TrichinellaI brought a nice load of bear home for the dogs but after weighing the risks, it got tossed. Piglets.. Well, we've fed them before. Might still be a good idea to freeze for a couple of weeks but it is your choice.. -~Ketlin

My understanding is that if you freeze the meat for a period of 3 or more weeks you will kill the trichinella parasite. Bear meat has a very strong flavour so your furbabies might just turn their little noses up at it anyway...but the piglets should be an easy feed. My guys love pork, so that would be a definite the bear???I would be doing some research. I know that some people feed it to their dogs without problems, but they do freeze it. There's a certain temp that must be attained and the time period is a minimum of 3 weeks. ciao

I didn't know that, Ketlin! Thanks! I've eaten bear in the past(didn't like it too much ), and hadn't realized it could be a potential problem! Mind you, ours had been frozen for a while.

It is sorta of ironic! We always think of bears as eating humans, when some humans eat bears. Now how's that fair if we can eat them, but they can't eat us ? I think most people just hunt them for the fur though.
