And holy cow! The rats I ordered are huge! The mice are also a lot bigger than the ones I was getting from the pet store.
I'm thawing out a rat right now for Ozzy. He likes mice well enough and a rat is pretty much a full day's meal for him.
Other than having to scrub off the rat, I'm really pleased with this order. This will easily last me 3 months of not longer.

I believe someone on here was saying that when they are mass killed and packed, the bladders drain down onto the ones below them. Never ordered them that way myself, so I have no idea!

There was some discoloration and a funny smell. I'm not completely sure it was urine but I didn't want to take any chances.
In any case, the rat was a bit too intimidating for him. I had to put it back in the freezer but I'll try again in a couple of weeks. He's about 3 months old now so he's about to hit another growth spurt. It also didn't help that it was 70 and the person downstairs (I live in an apartment with ceiling radiant heating) had his heater cranked up. Poor little Ozzy had to be in his cage all day so he could stay cool.

I have ordered from Rodent pro 2xs so far and nver seen a problem with urine on rats or mice . I always slow thaw them in the fridge in a closed container , If you thaw them on a counter or in warm water they can get moister laiden from condensation. . but it never hurts if in doubt o scub scrub scrub at 3months a adult rat is a nice challenge mite be better to try him out on younger rats or cut the adult in quarters (while frozen)the first few times to teach him its yummy fun food.

I was thinking of cutting the rat up. What's funny is that I originally planned on having the cats eat the rats but they showed no interest at all. I only got 20 rats so I'm not too concerned about getting them eaten. It also helps that my Ozzy is a big boy. He's actually 10 1/2 weeks old and he's already weighing in at around 1.5 pounds. He can tear through an adult mouse by himself in a matter of seconds if he's really hungry so I think it's really a matter of time until he's not so overwhelmed by a rat. I did decapitate the rat to leave the head in the cage (what we do for our babies ). When I went in to clean out leftovers and replenish food, the rat head was gone. Today's a boneless day so I'll try to give him a half of the rat for breakfast tomorrow. He's got chunks of beef heart that he's playing with right now and he'll get some pork picnic tonight.
