Is it okay to freeze the meat again, to keep it longer?

Its a no from me. Though, if we have wild game (rabbit, phesant etc) we leave it to "ripen" for a few hours before freezing, but we never re-freeze meat, unless it is phesant in which case the rest of the (human) family will eat it at a later date.

I frequently buy my meat in bulk, and it comes frozen. I have to thaw(in the fridge), portion, bag, and refreeze.

as long as the meat isn't completely defrosted and still has the majority of it that still has 'crystal's in it, then it's okay to re-freeze.
if buying bulk, defrost in fridge and check it frequently and cut off portions as the edges get soft enough to cut and then re-freeze it as soon as you've got it portioned...i would do this on a day when you know you'll be home all day to go into the fridge repeatedly to check the meat and cut as it becomes maleable.

Meat is frequently frozen and thawed from the time it comes from the provider to the grocery store Re-freezing it one more time once you are home won't hurt anything. Freezing and thawing again and again can increase the bacterial load of the meat, but a healthy ferret can easily handle that without any issues.

I quite often refreeze meats. I buy in bulk from a coop so quite often the food is frozen in 50 lbs pkgs (I took a shipment of over 200lbs of various meats the other day, plus a shipment of 150 lbs from my butcher). I would be lost if I couldn't refreeze. I often thaw and sort into more manageable portions. You may loose some trace minerals but not enough to seriously compromise your furbabies food. ciao

Sometimes what I buy comes in a package of more than I need for a single night but its all frozen together so I have to thaw and then refreeze what I'm not using.
