Am leaving a bowl of mush and a bowl of kibble out when I'm at work, and I change the mush to a new batch when I get home. They're still eating the mush, but it's clear that they all prefer the kibble. (There have been squables over who gets access to the bowls of kibble, in the middle of the night. Not a happy noise to wake up to!) Z has started to take the group out into the living room with him more during the day, so it's helping in the 'fasting' process, cause he will take out the kibble for a bit when he puts them back in the cage. (Cause he knows they are hungry, and will eat the mush if that's all they have available.) I will talk to him about freeze-dried.. It will also depend on what his new job's schedule is, when he gets the job If he's only out of the house for 5-7 hours, then we will be fine with just regular raw. Sorry I missed a few days. Still under the weather, but I've still been keeping up with the ferts. ETA: Arthas is still causing drama. But I'm glad he's occasionally getting along with everyone again. The two newbies seemed to even out the pack a little I guess. I love them to pieces, but I can understand when Z says he still wants to wait and see. We've agreed to still call them fosters. If they stay, that'd be alright with me. But it's got to be a decision that both Z and I agree on..

Nyx is now regurgitating her mush. I think she might be eating it too quickly..? I'd ask my boss.. But I dont have one anymore. (I was let go today. No, Don't want to talk about it, please.)

Yes, she probably is just eating to quickly. Its alot easier to shovel the mush into your mouth, then the kibble Just keep her hydrated, keep an eye on her, and she should be just fine. If the vommitting continues for the next few days then I would be concearned, but vommiting once or twice (even though ferrets dont "normally" vomit) is alright. How are the others doing? Is everyone eating the mush yet?

shes not vomiting, she's regurgitating. (Nothing had been digested, it was within 3 minutes of her ingesting the food). Sorry, that probably sounds kinda snippy of me but I'm not meaning it as such, I promise.
Still working on the two newbies. I'd kind of like the 6 on an even playing field before I move to the next step, because they're all housed together now so it'd make our lives a little easier..
I was really hoping that some ferret-playtime would cheer me up today, but so far, lots of fail. I still love my furkids but I was hoping to feel better after I got home.

Oh okay, I see (no need to apologize, you didnt sound snippy to me). If she's regurgitating then I'd definitly think it was from eating to fast. She should slow down her eating and adjust on her own. I think getting all the newbies on even footing is a good idea. I'm sorry you are having a rought time. I wish you all the best and I hope things look up for you soon.

no changes. I've been meaning to add the beef stock we made (from beef soup that Z made a few days ago) to their mush but I haven't done it yet. We weighed them all again but we used a diff method so the numbers are all wonky. (Nyx is now something in the 500g range.) So we're not sure which numbers are right.
They're getting along pretty well, particularly since when I bring them out for playtime, I've been splitting up the group. So, three stay in the cage, and three come out with me. Then after a few hours, I swap. Less stress for me, and more one-on-one playtime for them.
Nyx is still eating too fast. I've given her the option of eating by herself, which is helping. Since she's the smallest I want to make sure she has the chance to eat her fill, in a comfortable space. Bo tends to push her aside when she's at a food bowl. (We have two in the cage. One on each level.)

Dont worry about not adding the beef broth yet. Just do it when you have time. Its actually kind of good to go nice and slow. It allows them to get used to each step and you'll have a higher rate of food acceptance I'm sorry to hear that Nyx is still eating to fast, do you mean she's still regurgitating?

Only once in the last 24 hours, because I've been giving her a separate place to eat at her own pace. She's still hydrated, no temp, poo is regular for her, etc. She slows down if I give her time, and if I split up her meal into smaller portions. Bo has just been pushin her a lot. (Not fighting. Just, moving her aside cause he's 2x bigger, and is hungry. He seems to always want to be at whichever bowl someone else is already using.)

Woot! We made the batch of food today, and gave each of them individual time in the playpen to try out the new mush. They all needed a little convincing to *start* but once they got a mouthfull, they ate it willingly. Rex inhaled his, and was the only one to finish the tablespoon amount we gave each fert. Jaina made a "yucky" face the whole time with hers, but still ate it. And, I took pics. Cause I owed this board some ferret mush-eating pics. Here are the new weights. But I cannot compare them to the older ones I have. These are more accurate. Bo: 1061k Rex: 1147k Arthas: 1037k Khad: 1160k Jaina: 1014k Nyx: 581k Aaaand photos. I can't express how adorable Arthas' face is while looking at the camera, chewin on his food. Soooooo funny! Order: Nyx, Rex, Arthas, Arthas again, Nyx again, Khadgar, Jaina (yuck face) and Bo.

hehe I can't get over Arthas' face. He's so funny! Jaina is a goofball. Everytime we tried to move the food away she'd follow it, even though her face stated she didn't really want to be eating this stuff. She's plumped up a lot since we got her 5mo ago. Though she was still leaving her kit stage at that point. I can't explain it but it's almost like her coat lays down closer to her head now, and her ears are further apart. The mix was: 1cup beef stock that we made, 1 small boneless chicken thigh, a handful of chicken organs (liver, heart, gizzard) and a chicken neck.. A little ferretone, and enough kibble to give it a mush texture. (at most 1cup kibble.) The only one we had to add ferretone for was Nyx. I gave some to Arthas cause.. well.. I spoil him. lol. He would have probably eaten it alright without it but who can resist his "I'm cute" look.. They're wakin up now so I get to go change litter boxes. Yay..

Since I'm back at my retail job more now, I have time to be on the comp during the day. We changed the setup of the cage last night, so food is available in two separate areas still but they're on the same level. They use to be one two sep levels. Jaina, Khadgar, and Rexxar are all now eating willingly from the bowls in the cage. (No kibble is being offered today. Z has another 3 weeks till his job starts so we feel like now is the time to get them switched!) Bo will eat from the bowls in the cage if someone else is trying to eat. He wont seek it out on his own. Arthas has been spotting eating a few times, but not as much as he use to. Nyx is still being offered food in her own setting. (In the playpen) but she's at least showing interest in the mush in the cage when she's in there. She's just so tiny that no one else will let her in to eat! I really don't want to set up 6 different bowls around the cage yet, I feel that would be a waste of food and a lot more cleanup than is needed. But, is that my only option right now, to get her to eat in the cage? I think she may have been eating too fast simply because she's not given the chance to eat at her own pace, because she's sooo tiny.. Z admitted yesterday that Nyx has him whipped. lol.
