Perhaps this is Kat's Christmas presen to you I'm utterly thrilled that she's finally starting to come around. Plus, once she starts accepting the freeze-dried as food, you can back off on the kiibble until she accepts the freez-drid by itself. Then you can add a few drops of water to the freeze-dried. The wysongs and stella & chewies steaks retain their texture when wet...wet kibble turns to mush - yuck. You can also mix ground turkey meat in with the freeze-dried crumbs. Yes, it does take time, but if you're determined, you will be successful. I've never met a ferret that will not switch with enough time and patience (asuming the ferret is healthy, of course!) Give the little Princess a big kiss from me for being so brave with her first steps toward becoming a raw-fed baby!!! -jennifer

You'll want to start being EXTREMELY cautious with that new, deadly strain of ECE that's just surfaced. The situation is pretty frightening. If you haven't heard about it yet, please read the medical section. -jennifer

I'm trying to catch up on emails, etc. There was a post on the FML stating that a shelter in AZ had a similar sounding virus last august....there has been some peculation that this may a non-ECE virus passed from people to ferrets...or who knows! How id Kat doing with her picky eating? I hope she's adjusting to the freeze-dried. I will be in Utah for the next 5 days and once again may not have online access!!! I hope the new year is less hectic - December has been otta control for me!!! -jennifer

Happy new year!!!! I'll look for the post on the FML about the possible bout of thhat virus/ECE? in Arizona so you can read the details. Did you try the crab legs on Kat? How about crab legs and ferret tug-of-war tug-of-war? ? Finding cheap archetypal I is tough....Casey's Pantry turned out to be cheaper than Wysong due to the shipping. It seems like the price doesn't vary on the Wysong, but the shipping does. Please remember that buying from any place that has ferrets may be risky due to this virus/ECE thing, so a non-ferret establishment would technically be safer. I'm glad that Kat has decided to accept the freeze-dried . does she take the chunks from your hand and eat them??? If so, you may want to try one drop of water on a small chunk. Don't wet a bunch of it down - too expensive!!! The next step is to see if we can get Kat to accept a bit of slightly moistened food. If we can get her eating two fresh raw meals a day, she won't need as much of the spendy Wysong's -jennifer

ok that would be good to read that info on the ECE here in AZ man kinda hope it wasnt around here know what i'm sayin know its not nice but just dont need that around here its bad enough working in a petstore sometimes never know what comes in there. as for miss princess kat no she wont take any food from my hands she will only eat from the bowl she is such a bratt with that lol even treats she would rather u drop them on the floor then take them from you. i will look at that with buying stuff from a non-ferret place tyvm for the tip the health of my guys is #1 i even called my local health food store to see if they can order it no luck i will try to put a drop on the wysong and see how kat likes it lets hope she does little miss pricess that gives u that look lol

I'll keep looking. I was hoping to get the email address so you could email the person for more details. Here's a link to the compilation of related emails - it has the AZ post in there, but no location and no email adddress... forum.ferret.com/printable.asp?m=87664-jennifer

I'm paranoid about this virus/ECE thing too. It freaks me out really bad! I just accelerated my kids' annual checkup by 3 months just in case the virus starts showing up in Colorado. I'll be sared to take them to the vet Anyway, I'm glad the Princess is doing well - take one chuk of the Wysong and rub a small bit of the baby food on one ide of the chunk if she won't eat the Baby food - she'll give you a dirty look for trying to poison her again . I'm so glad she's getting into the meat! Slowly start to work some moisture (a drop of water - or baby food- into kat's food. Make sure you "contaminate" only a couple of pieces - the food is so expensive that you won't want to waste it!!! I bet wolf looks adorable with his fancy coloration - Shaman had a dark chevron on his head for a while - it's very faint now - he's roaning out a bit as he gets a little older. I'm glad he's keeping his "dirty mitt" and his nose splotch"...he's such a clown, and those markings add to his appeal! Keep up the great work with your kids! -jennifer

It's great that Kat is eating raw I need to post something about my brats - I did boodwork on 3 of them since they turn 4 in March (yikes! Where'd the time go?) Anyway, their bloodwork came out great. The only issue was that 2 had very slightly high eosinophils, which suggests a bit of allergy. I've suspected that these two (from the same litter) have a minor foo allergy. The important thing here is that the commercial raw products seem to be good at sustaining a healthy diet over alrelatively ong period of time. (about 3.5 years) Yes, I'm so paranoid about that virus (or what ever it is). It's part of the reason why I got my kids in for their annual appt NOW....I figure there's a greater chance that the disease will be around later rather than sooner. Let me know when you try the baby food or a drop or two of water on a piece of Archetypal I - I'll be interested in hearing how the Princess reacts to this -jennifer
