Poor little Kat I'm sure that was very traumatic for her. Since Kat is so young, and she appears to have bolted her food and panicked I don't think she has insulinoma, which is the big scare with sudden weakness and fast recovery with a small amount of nourishment. However, please let me know if she throws up again. This means we can still torture her with meat on the tongue! What treats were those that the kids like so well? If they can be made into crumbs for coating tiny meat bits, Kat might accept small bits of meat this way. Hugs and kisses to Kat and the rest of your kids. -jennifer

thanks she is a little brat again she ran up to the playpen and i was playing with her and she played bite me lol like i have said before she is the little priss of the family so when she was throwing up i didnt want to do anything but be out there and watch her till she was done and make sure she was fine. as for the treat i dont know if i will ever let her have that one again but there are others that i can get some meat on. and get in her mouth i will wait again for about another week wait till she is a little better. and miss badger got out yesterday omg the small parrot had her it was funny i do have pixs of badger getting out we are now trying to think of a way to keep her in the cage/playpen she climbed up and got onto the 2x6 and jumped over to the bird cage and was walking around when the parrot grabed her by the fur grrr this little climber she spent a time out in the crate for about 20 mins then back in the cage lol hugs to Kat for u tyvm

Yes, I have a little Princess too- she's the little albino on my banner. She"pinches" if she's not getting enough attention. She whomps o the other three, but squeals if anyone picks on her. She can dish it out, but she can't take it . I love my little pain-in-the-butt Princess - she's priceless Be VERY careful with the ferts and the parrots. Ferts have been known to kill large pet parrots(even Amazons) even though parrots tend to rule the root. Parrots are really neat little guys too You'll know when Kat is ready for more meat torture. In the meantime, watch her to make ure this was a freak thing! jennifer

How is Kat doing? I hope she's back to normal. Have you tried any more meat with her? I suspect your best bet is to mix some freeze-dried crumbled food in with the kibble. This is the best way to get the ferrets that don't like wet food to develop a taste for meat.
If Kat is doing fine, put the meat on the tongue again.
Please leyt me know when Kat is ready for more "torture"!

No worries - I've been MIA too - work hours have been killing me so bad that I didn't even turn on the election - and that's pretty bad Anyway, the bison, elk, venison meat sounds like a good possibility - how much veggie is in it? You want no more than 10% veggies - preferrably no more than 5%. Does it have bone in it??? I'll look it up on the web to check it out. Bison, elk and venison are lean mats, so the at content is a little low fr a ferret for full time feeding. However, beef, lamb and pork are good for alternate feedings - as long as you're feeding variety the leaner meats are good too. My brats LOVE venison. So now, Kat the Brat is being her adorable little princess self!!! . I strongly recommend a bag of the freeze-dried raw diet (AFS, Stella & Chewy's, Archetypal I mixed in with kibble. This will get Kat liking meat. Even one bag might be enough to get her moving. Short of that, try making a mix of finely minced meat with enough kibble crumbs mixed in to make it like kibble thats stuck together with meat - kind of a crumbly texture like pie crust...feed er that mixture only - y (no kibble). try playing with her and provide water with a tiny bit of meat baby food mixed in as well. Most ferrets like to sip on a bit of water during active play (at least in Colorado where it's dry). Don't give up on her - you'll need to be frm and consistent wih te crumb-meat mixture. The really stubborn ferrets uually ned to be made littl uncomfortable (hungry) before they'll switch. I assume Kat has been fine since her little ordeal with the treat? Sorry, I've MIA - work again - can't wait for this project to end!!! -jennifer

its ok i know the feeling omg i worked 10 days before i got a day off YES i get a day off what is that now? lol. i will have to look and see what % on the package is vegies is in it did find out its costly $21.99 for 12oz and it does have bone in it thats why i really looked at it for the ferrets u can even make it into a soup if need be. and bty kat play now thats funny her play is i'm pulling on ur pant leg pick me up she just wants to be held lol. today we took in another one pretty bad shape she was found on a busy street very dirty little on the skinny side got a bath at work and food got her home and gave her duck soup i'm thinking she is still weak but hope to get her back on her feet soon we named her at the store "chance"

Take advantage of Kat wanting to play...sit on the floor withe her and work on getting her to play tug-of-war> Once she learns that tug-of-war is fun, you can then start up the game with her and swap in a strip of meat for her to tug on. It will take a lot of play time for her to get bold enough to chomp down on something she's not very keen on.
Will Kat eat meat baby food? How doe she react to it? I was thinking she may try cooked food.
I could not find any info on that new food called Into the Wild. If it has bone and organ meats, it may be a balanced diet. I like to look for AAFCO certification even though I know it's lacking, it's better than not knowing if the diet is balanced. If the company has a good reputation and if you compare the detailed analysis to something like Nature's Variety venison, you're probably OK you'll need to compare the calcium, taurine, vitamins, etc. (not just % of proitien)

My kids had ear mites once - I treated them with tressaderm, which I get from the vet. I've never had to deal with other nites - are they the same as ear mites but just a larger-scale infestation??? You may want to restrict the ferrets to a single room until you get this all cleared up. I don't know anything about mites, but it sounds like they could be a real pain to clear up. I suspect that if you're battling mits, you haven't had much time to work with Kat on eating meat. I saw some freeze-dried chicken strips in petSmart, and I immediately thought of Kat. You can crumble some into Kat's kibble . Smaller crumbles will be difficult for her to avoid while she eats kibble. If Kat trieds to avoid the chicken strips, you can store them in her bag of kibble a day or two before you serve them...this will make them smell like kibble, so the strips will seem familiar to her. then you can cumble them into the kibbl in her food bowl. -jenniifer

I just got some Ziwipeak too - I have the lamb - my kids think it's OK, but they like other stuff better. There's some chicory in the Ziwipeak, so I think that makes it smell /taste different. I'd crumble some of the ziwipeak/ freeze-dried meats into Kat's kibble. Start with a SMALL amount and stick with a SMALL amount for a while. Then increase the amount of freeze-dried in Kat's kibble by a SMALL amount. W're goin to have to sneak this in slowly so she won't really notice what's happening! Once you start this, do not let Kat have plain kibble (unless it's wet ) - we want her to get used to the taste of meat and forget about plain kibble!!!) Also continue to put some raw, wet meat in her mouth at least a few times per week. You'll need to get tough wit her - after all, she's the little princess!!! Have fun, and don't give in to her!!! -jennifer
