Hey Hey
How long is too long for road kill deer in 30 degree weather? I have seen nearly ten dead deer on the road since yesterday but aren't sure if they would be okay to nab for my dog or weasels.

That's a good question, I don't know. If it's not for human consumption....probably longer. I was led that if a animal such as a deer wasn't bled properly and left that some of the toxins drain into the body (I don't know this for sure, so it's not a fact....just a hearsay). Just thought of something....you meant 30 F right not 30 C? 30 F is freezing you would be able to take that safely a lot longer than 30 C (about 90 F)....It's always worth a try. I know the raw feeding coop often takes on road kill deer and it works very well. ciao

Just fyi. I am now feeding a balanced raw diet to 6 out of eleven of these weasels. No kibble as of a day ago.
I have the other kids switching in the cage. Everyone gets swapped times out. Monster will have kibble present but he's not too keen on gnawing on bone like everyone else. So he gets mush's or chopped. Does he have to get bone if he doesn't like it?

I would keep trying with him. I never stop. I've got a couple who will not eat anything but commercial mix (fine ground) but I still keep offering bone in meat to them. Usually, if it's there often enough and they see others eating it, they will try it. ciao

It's not like monster doesn't like it. He just doesn't feel up to eating it. He's very passive when it comes to his raw and won't go after it if someone takes it. He will nibble around the bone but the bone doesn't interest him. Good news. 6 are still eating raw. The other guys are eating chicken, pork, and beef mush. I got a hold of a processor guy and raided his big yellow trash can full of meat. My new list of deer is-> 2-3 months worth of boned meat for simba 2-3 months worth of chopped deer meat. 2 months of ground thanks to my lovely food processor

Hey Hey
Simba found out that he likes the deer legs after his girlfreind took his bone and was gnawing on it. lol So he's been eating it fine.
I made ground deer with liver & Kidney from cows. They havn't had that yet but they did have deer chunks. They were a little hesitant about the peices but it got stashed and jerkified.
The 6 are still eating raw. I have to have kibble for monster with they seem to just eat raw over the kibble that's sat out.

I think that once that the switch is complete that most switched ferrets will choose raw over kibbles. I think that the raw actually makes them feel better. I made a mistake one day in the summer of leaving a bowl of kibbles on top of Yuri's cage (Yuri was in the process of switching and giving me some real trouble so I had to feed him kibbles, I removed it during the day and gave it to him at night). The guys got into the kibbles...what a mess. They dug in them, threw them all over the room...but surprisingly very little was actually eaten. ciao

Hey heather. I am throwing in a update that everyone is taking in chicken chunks. Please don't pause my post for not responding. Monster has thrown me off, and the new project is bringing back my want for these guys. I hate to say it but for a little while I felt ferrets caused too much pain. Lucky I've been keeping up with giving the kids their chicken and switched to a beter, and strangely cheaper food. This has more meat in the kibble than my old food. One thing I need to do is check on my food status. I don't know how much chicken I have left, and 1 ground mush. That's not includding my deer stash.

I know where you're at with the pain of loosing and keeping up with sick ferrets. It's hard, wears you down. You get tired of crying. You will do ok, just keep plugging at it. Is everyone...absolutely everyone eating chicken chunks now? ciao
