Hello. I havent bought that kibble yet because ive decided to feed only raw for awhile. I want to see if his poop gets better after he detoxes all the kibble.
I have a housing problem though. I would keep a towel under the bottom half of the cage his litter box is on and a blanket on the other half. His poo is so much like tar and gets on the blanket and i dont want to wash it in the same washer as our clothes but it wont come off any other way. Ive thrown the towels/blankets over the fence and sprayed with the hose knozzel. Its just too much. So i put down newspaper on the whole bottom level and the blankets on the 2nd story where there is no litter box. But now he is pooping right outside next to the box. Its not litter box rejection because his box is too full or anything like that because weve had cats that do that...with 4 cats sharing the same box even cleaning it out every day it can get too full for picky kitties. what can i do?!?! I cant afford to throw away and buy new towels every time.

Has he eaten bone in meat other than pinkies now?
How often are you scooping his litter box(s)? We have two small litter boxes for our three ferrets.. If you only have one litter box I would suggest getting a second box to go in the cage. If you scoop them once in the morning and once in the evening than that should be plenty for one ferret. Also make sure that the litter is on the deep side. This should solve the problem and if not I will see what else I can do to help you.

I keep the litter pretty deep and higher on the corners. The box had no poo in it when he decided to go right next to it. I thought it was the newspaper since it wasnt as soft as towels he thought he could go on it. I may go to the thrift store and get towels so I have enough where I dont have to wash but twice a month then I will use a laundrymat for that. thats the only solution ive come up with.
hes not yet eaten bone other than mice and pinkies. I have more places I need to check for bone powder at.

So this morning I got up early for a doctors appt and the little s**t was awake looked right at me as he proceeded to poo outisde next to his box!!!! after I put towels back down. The only thing I can try now is to scoop out his box after EVERY mess he does in it. then this will rule out him not wanteing to use a used box even though he has done it before.
I cant see it being a behavioral probelm because i let him out alot and now 99% of the time he has full run of the house aside from bedroom bathroom and laundry room doors being closed. when hes out in my room he always uses his litter box just now not in his cage.

When you get the bone powder, don't get the cooked kind... Fresh bone powder from the saw at the butchers would be the only way to go unless you want to save egg shells up and gind them in a coffee grinder which would be a short term solution. I'd say he is ready for graduation if you can get him to eat bone in like chicken wings, necks, backs or legs.
The only thing I can think of for the poo problem is every time he poops, put it in the litter box and clean the spot where he did it.. He should get the idea. You can post in the General ferret discussion area and ask for more opinions. My ferrets do use the bathroom outside of the litter box when they are in the cage but usually only if the litter box is due for a cleaning.

seems were doing a little better with the litter box for the moment.
Hes acting so crazy though. ever since dinner time when i gave him a tiny bit of mashed potatoes as a treat hes been running around screeching constantly what seems like hunting the potatoes. he hasnt eaten much the last 3 days and the potatoes were the first thing other than his meat hes had in a long long time. also when he got a hold of my flip flop tonight he went crazy too. He acted like he hadnt eaten in a couple weeks and my flip flop was a steak. Hed grab it and take off...when i tried to take it from him he was making these insane noises and flopping around. Now since then hes been put back in his cage and let out again. since i let him out this time he hasnt been as playful as usual. it seems like hes running around hunting. also my brother came out to the kitchen for a drink he follwed him to his door. when my brother used his foot to block him from getting in he started screeching. i told my brother not too hurt him and he said he didnt and wasnt rough with his foot that the ferret was just pissed off he couldnt come in.

I was trying to find a video of ferrets playing and I found this.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fmV9vruN4sIs that your Sid? Not to make you feel guilty or anything but judging by the description of his behavior and all he sounds lonely. I think he just really liked the mashed potatoes and it excited him and he became playful. The flip flop thing, assuming that your flip flops are the foamy rubbery kind that most are.. Ferrets just like the way it feels in their mouths and they will sometimes EAT them if you are not careful (Yes, literally) so you have to be very careful. He's trying to amuse himself. Ferrets are very social and if you don't plan on getting another I would suggest that you set up play dates with another ferret.. Just be sure that the other ferret is vet checked and healthy. What has he been eating lately? Is he getting any variety? -~Ketlin

the lonely part makes since. I had spent the night away from home and got back the next evening so he didnt get to come out of my room to play when he usually does.
no thats not my sid on youtube. I should make some videos of him though. hes been getting pork sirloin and chicken and a mouse here and there.
its funny the way he acts with flip flops but he cant have them. you are right its foamy rubber and very easy to bite out chunks.

I recently went away for about a week and the ferrets were not theirselves when I returned (Nor were the dogs, they wouldn't eat when I was gone). Its nice to know you are loved that much by them though.
I know.. Flip flops are Weezer's friend, or he thinks. But he's eaten foam and rubber before and its gotten him near death because it was blocking him up, so he's not allowed to see his flip flop friends anymore.
Since he is eating nothing but raw right now be sure to get some organ in his diet. Just simple chicken livers would be good.

ok so sid's been out and playing for the last 2 hours and he is still acting whacky. he keeps running around screeching. when hes not playing hes acting like hes starving...like the cats do when they are hungry they follow us around meowing at us. Also when i feed him i lock him in the cage with the meat and he always hoards it and scatters it throughout the cage. Hes hardly eaten the last 4 days but he always hoards his food even when he is eating. my mom said hes fine and just going through a spurt and sometimes animals will eat alot and then go through a phase where they will not eat so much. im just worried and dont know what to do.
is it possible hes just going through a phase where he has more attitude and throwing tantrums like the terrible 2's?
also he will use all the litter boxes throughout the house but not always the ones in his cage...but so far every single time outside of the cage its in the box. hhmm....?

2 hours isn't really enough time for him to have expelled all his energy. When my ferrets are out for 8+ hours they are usually running around half of the time.. They are also awake more at night than in the morning it seems. Since he seems like he's starving, if you can get some of the Innova Evo you could give it to him.. Obviously its not the same as feeding raw but it could help curb the starving attitude and it is a great kibble. You could give it to him every other day or something if it does help. But it probably is just a spurt. The ferrets have scared me many times because sometimes they just stash their food completely instead of eating..
Just be sure to play with him alot.. Hold him and use toys like cat teasers so he knows he has your campanionship.
I don't know why he'd be doing that (not always using the litter box when in the cage)... Maybe he is giving revenge for being locked in the cage? How many hours out of the cage does he get each day?

he gets atleast 4 hours but here lately hes been out most all day. since im not currently working im home all the time. so as long as im home hes out. except for today i had an appt this morning out of town and i just got back but now i have a 3:30 appt but its in town so ill be home no later than 4:30 and he will be out of the cage until midnight or so when i go to bed.
its funny sometimes after hes been out playing for a few hours he will be walking somewhere and then he stops and collapses and lays there like hes tired and going to sleep then a few seconds later hes back up and on his way.
