Oh and, will I eventually be feeding JUST whole prey? That's what I'd like to do really.

Yes, if you'd like to feed JUST prey that is perfectly acceptable. But its important to get them eating a balanced diet of raw before we get them started on whole prey To feed a balanced and varied whole prey ONLY diet, all you need to do is: *Feed atleast 3 species of animal per week *Feed about 70-80% adult animals, and the remaining 20-30% can be young or baby animals.

Ah ok, well it seems to be going ok. they had an organ meal last night and were a bit confused by it but I left it with them overnight and most of it went. Is my feeding schedule ok then? I can get them started on it next week!

Yup, your schedule looks good. Keep feeding that, but don't hesitate to add in new meats and what not. Just remember the rules I posted earlier, actually they are really more "guidelines" then rules. So, time to get started on whole prey. Have they ever tried a pinky mouse before?

I actually fed them some mice yesterday as a friend of mine had just bought some for their snake, they were large mice though but the ferrets loved them! I think they were a bit disappointed when they got chicken again after!

Wonderful! Now the plan is this: Get them used to various ages (sizes) of mice. You will want to feed approx 70% adult mice, the rest can be pinky mice through weaned mice. You can also try: Rats Chicks Quail Whole Fish (sardines, anchovies, and smelt. ALL RAW, NOT CANNED) Lizards (house geckos and anoles) Bugs (mealworms, waxworms, crickets, earthworms, silkworms, superworms) Rabbit That's all I can think of right now, but pretty much any small, whole animal is fair game Are you wanting to feed ALL whole prey or 50/50 raw/whole prey?

Thanks Giuli, my plan is to feed ALL whole prey eventually!
I know that every ferret is different but is there a rough guideline of how many mice they should be eating each per day?

Ferrets (depending on their size, weight, gender, activity level, and time of year) will eat between 1-6 adult mice daily. Just feed them as much as they will eat, but be sure to watch them. You dont want to give them a ton of food that they will only stash and not eat They are sneaky little buggers.
