Its the favorite part of my day. My b/f and I take our 3 animals (Mizu, Fugue, and Zephyr) out for a one hour walk every morning at 9am. I love spending time with them, and they all love the time outside. Anyone else take their ferts outside on walks or in playpens? If not, you should really consider it! My ferrets seem so much calmer after spending time outside, and their lives are probably much more fulfilling now that they get to feel the dew on the grass, the wind in their fur, and the sun on their backs.

Mine love going for walks. With 6 of them, and only two of us, we have to do it in batches. And it's a bit time consuming seeing that we don't get home until 5:00.
We like the premier 5-in-1 harnesses. We've color coded the harness for the ferrets, so we know which ferret gets which leash. And it's already set up to fit them.
Our blind guy, Mr Lynx, seems to enjoy the outdoors the most. The others seem frightened of how high the sky is, and want to scurry under bushes and stay there. Not Mr Lynx - he likes wandering around the lawn, smelling the dirt and grass, and probably the scents of the rabbits and deer who have been out there before him.
When we grill, we set up the play pen and bring them out to play while we sit on the deck. They like that. I'd love one of the loungers, but hubby has put me on a "no new ferret stuff" *diet*. I can only buy food and litter for them now.

Renny Loves walks, she likes to dig in the dirt the most, and ohhh does she love to burrow in snow. We lived in Omaha for the passed year, so LOTS of snow. I'm currently looking to buy a play pen for them. anyone know of the best place to get one?

I got my old playpen off of craigslist. I was lucky though. I posted an ad and someone responded immediately. I think the cheapest place to get one is ferret.com (because they have $6.99 shipping. You can get a 6-panel pen or a 9-panel pen (depending on how big you want it.
BTW- Renny is adorable! She's a dark-eyed white, right? SO gorgeous!

I already have my leash and harness. I had no clue you can actually walk them for long periods of time. So very cool.

Yes, they can go out for walks. Its actually wonderful for them. VERY enriching. Mine love to dig in the dirt (and as a result they dont dig at my carpet, like some ferrets do). See my "Just a reminder" post in the natural care section for info on natural flea and tick preventatives (a must if you plan to take your fert outside during the spring/summer months).

I used to take the ferrets exploring in the front yard back home. They'd love it here, so many quail and bunnies to chase. We never actually went on walks, I'm horrible about that, even with the dogs, but we do other activities, with all the different critters! ~Jenn
