I've used geocities. Its ok but adds "geocities" to the address name. I think all free sites will do that though. What kind of site are you planning on making? Proboards is good for discussion forums and eCrater is good for eBusinesses.

I've just started using www.tripod.lycos.com/It works pretty good. I can upload Dreamweaver and HTML pages quickly with their FTP options. .tripod.com will be included in your web address. I tried the Freewebs hosting and it works decently as well. It adds .webs.com to your web site address.

The only way you won't have the site builder's name in it is if you upgrade (costs money) to get them to buy you a URL or buy one yourself and upload it to the host with your account. I looked into this about a year ago. There is no way to get a free website without the host's name unless you know someone who owns a host company and can get them to give it to you for free. I do recommend freewebs. Their stuff is very user friendly, and it's only a few dollars to upgrade to www.yourname.com
