Even a heartless person?
We were on our way to someones house 45 minutes from here, it was quicker to drive through the next town over so we could get to the interstate. It was 4:30 so it was a bit busy out but nothing major.. Riding along I spotted a dog next to the road, I asked dad to stop so we could run it over to the shelter which was only about a mile away. My sister and I got out, sis scooped the poor emaciated lab up, right before she did I realized the dogs back leg looked wet. I took her and got back into the van. She was missing at least half of her fur, big patches were missing everywhere and she was covered in fleas. I was sitting on the middle of the bench seat between the two front bucket seats, I asked dad and sis to look at her back leg because I couldn't see it. Sis started crying and dad just covered his face for a second and said "Oh my god". It looked like she had been caught on fire, she smelt of rotten meat. We took her to the shelter, my father went in alone and asked if he could bring her in first, he explained what happened. We all went in as he carried her to the back, we weren't allowed to go back. Dad said the woman opened a kennel for her to go in, dad tried to set her down and she collapsed. She was laying down eating, dad was asking if she would be put down and the lady said probably.. When this was going on a woman up front was trying to ask if she was OUR dog, apparently she didn't believe that we found her. We explained that we HAD found her. They had to get a copy of dads driver license and made him sign a stray relinquish paper.
We are friends with the main dog catcher there and with the managers parents, it would be horrible if they try to pin this on us. NO baby deserves to be treated like that, the girl didn't have a mean bone in her body. No growl or snap, she just rested on my lap on the way to the shelter. I did feed her a few slices of bread we had in there, she was starving but almost too weak to eat. It is heart breaking knowing that this happens all the time, I really wish they wouldn't put her down. They really probaly don't have the funds to get her back to health, it wouldn't be fair for her to suffer either. We will probably call out friend at the shelter in the morning to check on her.
