My favorite dog is a Doberman They are part sight hound, so I would use caution when around small fuzzy things. They can be overprotective if not socialized properly, and even if socialized, they are naturally protective. And they have ALOT of energy

Part sighthounds? I hadn't ever heard that before. I'll have to look into them more. Dobies are fantastic dogs, but the are a breed that is often caught up in BSL. Because of this, and their nature it is so very important your dog is well socialized and well trained. Do you know if she's had any training? At 10 months I would hope she atleast has some basics you can build on. Either way I'm sure she'll learn fast. Is she a fawn dobie, or are the photos just bad? www.dpca.org/ - a good source for information www.dobermantalk.com/forumindex.php - Very active Dobie forum community.livejournal.com/breedists_no/ - Anti BSL forum <3 ETA: I see john beat me to the forum lol

The breed is believed to have been created from several different breeds of dogs that had the characteristics that Dobermann was looking for, including the Pinscher, the Beauceron, the Rottweiler, the Thuringian Shepherd Dog, the black Greyhound, the Great Dane, the Weimaraner, the German Shorthaired Pointer, the Manchester Terrier and the old German Shepherd Dog - now extinct. The exact ratios of mixing, and even the exact breeds that were used, remains uncertain to this day, although many experts believe that the Doberman Pinscher is a combination of at least four of these breeds. The single exception is the documented cross with the Greyhound. It is also widely believed that the old German Shepherd (now extinct) gene pool, was the single largest contributor to the Doberman breed. The book entitled "The Dobermann Pinscher", written by Philip Greunig (first printing in 1939), is considered the foremost study of the development of the breed, by the most ardent students of the breed. It describes the early development of the breed by Otto Goeller whose hand allowed the Doberman to become the dog we recognize today.

Thanks for all the responses! I have a pit bull, so I'm no stranger to BSL! I've found in my reading that they're very similar to Beaucerons in their mannerisms, and that's a breed I know quite well, so that should help. The guy says she knows her basic commands ("sit, lay down, stay, leave it, with me, still working on the heal, but she is a lil slow on learning that one"), so that's good.
Yes, she's fawn. I'm going to check out those links now! Thanks!

wonderful. I wonder what techniques he is using, if she's stubborn or he isn't working hard enough. lol My malamute mix is very stuborn and too smart for her own good. lol
this is off topic but do you have any photos of your pit? I love the breed.

Ooooh, I love Dobies! They're such beautiful, intelligent dogs. If she's been stuck in a kennel most of the time and still knows her basic commands well, I'd say you'll have an easy time training her.
Do be aware though, fawn and blue Dobies are unfortunately more prone to skin problems. She may have no issues, but it is something to watch out for.

Stubbornness and skin issues I'm well accustomed to due to the other breeds (or maybe just the individual dogs?) I have. We can work around it, and professional classes may be in order, too, we'll just have to wait and see I have 85 million pictures of my pittie, let me find where I've posted some and I'll edit this with the link! Here's one holisticferret.proboards80.com/index.cgi?board=otherpet&action=display&thread=18I could have sworn there were more, I have tons of shutterfly albums - I'll try to post more later when I have a few minutes to dig!

She looks like a chupacabra in the second picture!!!!! LOL!!! (I think that thing is make believe though).
Please keep us updated! I love dobies! (Mostly the ones that have natural ears and tails, but its not the dogs fault if the owner alters them).

I prefer natural ears, and docked tails on dobies and most breeds that "should" have docked tails accourding to their standard. Luckily this girl looks to have a good crop job. =D
I remember your pittie now! what a doll. Britches was a bald pink pig when he was picked up by his original foster mum, luckily it was sarcoptic mange and not demodex so it went quickly.

She's heeerrrreeeee!!!! And settling in well. We're having your normal figure-out-who's-the-dominant-dog issues, but nothing serious. She started out trying to play with all of them, but now she's skittish around Buster, cautious around Jessie, and just tries to play with Fritz - who is pretty much ok with it. Poor puppy. I think things will work out fine, though! I feel bad, though, it turned out not to be such a great time to bring her home, but I didn't know until after the fact. I have a house full of children I didn't know I was going to have, which she's great with, but I don't want to risk any dominance skirmishes getting to close to the kids, so we've kind of had to keep the dogs separate. They're together now, the kids are in bed with doors closed, and things are going good. I had to lock Jessie and Fritz outside because they wouldn't butt out and let Isis and Buster work things out. Crazyness. Anyhoo, I plan on walking them tomorrow until they're too pooped to move, and continuing to do so on a daily basis forever! And without further ado, here's pics! She's absolutely GORGEOUS!! Oh - and you'll have to excuse the clutter in my home. It's an 1100sqft house we outgrew the minute we moved in! We're still unpacking/organizing and cleaning up after Ike! The first picture is in what will eventually be my ferret room! Looks like she shares a sock fetish with Fender. Now I'll really be up a creek come laundry day!
