If you own a cat you MUST read this book. It explains exactly why a dry commercial kibble diet is a recipie for chronic disease in cats. The book explains how dry kibble in form and ingredients defy's the cat's dietary needs (as an obligate carnivore). It goes on to show how simply by switching your cat to a canned food diet (at the VERY least) you can reduce the risk (or even reverse the symptoms) of renal failure, diabetes, obesity, allergies, IBD (irritable bowel disease), dull/dry/flakey coat, and more! The warnings about dry kibble can be directly applied to ferrets, because they are even stricter carnivores then cats (cats have a small, underdeveloped ceacum---an organ responsible for digesting plant fiber----ferrets have NO ceacum).
If you love your cat, please read this book! You can buy it online through amazon.com for super cheap. It costs only $15 online (including shipping) whereas it costs about twice that price in book stores such as borders.
Your Cat: Simple New Secrets to a Longer, Stronger Life, by Elizabeth Hodgkins D.V.M, Esq.

I'll have to see if I can find it the next time my boyfriend drags me along to Borders or Barnes and Noble when he has work to do. Actually having something to read versus perusing computer art magazines and arts and crafts books would make the time pass a lot quicker

Book just arrived from Amazon! I haven't had the time to read it through, but I've skimmed the nutrition chapters.
Guili, what do you feed your cats?
