Not sure if anyone else saw this, but I couldn't find it online and read this article in yesterday's newspaper.
Ferret okay on bus OTTAWA - A woman who travels with a 'therapeutic' ferret has won her fight to be allowed on city buses while holding the creature. Frances Woodward, 54, suffers from agoraphobia, anxiety and panic attacks. According to her doctor, having Gyno with her eases her symptoms. Last fall, Woodward was issued a special pass to take the animal on the bus. Then, even though nobody complained, the permit was revoked when it was determined Gyno didn't qualify under existing city bylaws as a "service animal" such as guide dogs. But the transit committee has now given Woodard a special exemption. Woodard said when she was allowed to take the ferret on the transit system, she gained her 'freedom' for the first time in years. Coun. Maria McRae argued the city had violated Ontario accessibility laws. She proposed the city develop a new policy on service animals.

I don't remember if it was here or on Natural Ferrets, but I remember someone applying to have their ferret registered to go to care homes and visit with residents, but was refused on the grounds the ferret might bite. Totally not the same thing, but made me harken back to that post.
