hey everyone, i'm getting me some fuzzies in a few weeks (or whenever im ready for them) and i just have one little ferret proofing worry... how many people's ferrets like nibbling on power cords? because there are ALOT in my house and i don't really know what to do about them... blocking off the area's that they're in isn't an option as my house is really small... any thoughts/stories/suggestions would be much appreciated! ;D

My ferrets don't chew on power cords, and we have alot of them also. But if you have a concern, you can either buy cord protectors OR you can wrap the cords in aluminum foil. They don't like the way it feels or taste so they will not chew on it.

I've never had a ferret that had anything to do with any power cords except the thick one that goes to the back of the computer. He didn't want to chew it only steal it. Once that was hidden I didn't have any other problems. You can get covers that bundle cords but I've never used them and if they're made of soft rubber they won't work. ciao

My guys don't bother power cords but with a baby ferret I WOULD be careful, so if you plan to get kits do moniter their time around the cords. Atleast until they get past the "im teething" phase A good thing to do is invest in: 1. Bitter Apple Spray 2. Cord Protectors But only if you notice them chewing on the cords. No need to buy a bunch of expensive stuff only to find they don't even give a hoot about the cords. Moniter the cords for exposed wires, and if possible use zipties to secure the cords to each other. Just try and organize a bit and cut down on cord clutter. There are a variety of products that can help you do this. Hope this helps.

I too have power cords dangling all over the place and so far the only animal that ever chewed on a power cord was years ago and that was my crazy lop eared rabbit!
The only issue I've had was one where Roman had taken a meaty bone in a cubby hole where some computer cords were dangling. The cords are part of a harness used to connect to PCs together, but I had disconnected the second PC. Anyway he thought I was going to steal his food and he began chewing like crazy and he'd managed to mix the wire in with his meaty bone and in two quick bites had sheared through the wiring harness! It wasn't powered thank goodness!
But for any of them to seek out power cords and gnaw on them- I've never seen evidence of them doing it. But saying that, I do think a lot of the reason they don't is because they'd rather chew on things more suitable- like yummy chicken necks and other tastey bones!
Cheers, Kim
